JACKSON – It’s officially summer here in Michigan and that means it’s time to dust off the clubs, get a group of friends together and partake in the age-old tradition of a round of golf.
Whether you’re a beginner to the game or a skilled veteran, there are a plethora of courses that offer unique challenges to the wide variety of players that grace local links. The Jackson area has a rich history of golf and an expansive list of options when it comes to finding the right course for any occasion.
The coronavirus pandemic has limited a lot of summertime activities, but proper social distancing has allowed golf to remain relatively unscathed. If you are planning on visiting any local links in the next month or so, we’ve got you covered with a guide to some of your best bets for quality round of golf in the Jackson area.
Below is a list of 10 golf courses, presented in alphabetical order, in the Jackson area that are worth a round or two in the coming month.

Arbor Hills Golf Club
The Arbor Hills Golf Club opened in 1926 and was designed by Arthur Hamm, a protege of legendary golf course designer Donald Ross. The course was private until 2007, when a new owner took over and decided to open up the spacious course to any golfer with a passion for the game. The course features a par of 72, complete with a driving range, and 6,513 yards to challenge yourself with.

Calderone Golf Club
The course, located off I-94 in Grass Lake, was built in 2000 in hopes of providing a different style of golf for the Jackson area. The links-style course offers a unique blend of challenges for any golfer. The front nine was modeled after British links-style while the back nine showcases a more traditional style course. Golfers should expect some uphill shots, long drives, and sloping greens as part of their experience at the par-72 course that features more than 7,000 yards of playable real estate.

Cascades Golf Course
The Cascades Golf Course was established in 1929 and is operated by the Jackson County Parks Department. The course features some challenging holes, especially No. 17, which measures 383 yards from the white tees and a creek that runs across the fairway 240 yards out. With a par of 72 and 6,651 yards to play though, the Cascades Golf Course has plenty to offer.

Clark Lake Golf Course
The family-owned golf course which lies between Columbia and Clark Lake offers the public 27 holes of golf as well as a restaurant and golf simulator. Whether it’s enjoying a round of golf or grabbing a bite to eat, this venue has plenty to offer any golfing enthusiast and their family. The 18-hole course features a par of 73, while the nine-hole course has a par of 35.

Concord Hills Golf Course
The Concord Hills Golf Course was carved out of scenic hills and a wooded area that features well-maintained fairways and greens. Elevated tees and sweeping valleys combine to make this one of the more enjoyable courses to try in the Jackson area. The course features a par of 72 and 6,422 yards to play through.

Ella Sharp Park Golf Course
The Ella Sharp Park Golf Course features a variety of well-maintained fairways and greens. Holes No. 12 and No. 2 offer two of the more challenging obstacles you’ll face in the Jackson area. Hole No. 12 is a 393-yard par 4 that features an out-of-bounds to the left and large oak trees to the right and is capped off a severely sloped green. Hole No. 2 is a 413-yard par 4 that requires a long drive off the tee along the left side of the fairway and a disciplined approach shot in order to stay away from the bunker on the left of the green and the water hazard on the right. Overall, the course offers a par of 71 with 5,827 yards of playable room to operate from.

The Grande Golf Club
If you need a few practice swings before your big round of golf, the Grande Golf Club has you covered. The course offers two large putting greens, a chipping green and two large range tees. Once you get out on the link, the course offers a par of 72 and 7,157 yards of golf.

Hankerd Hills Golf Course
The Hankerd Hills Golf Course is located in Pleasant Lake and offers a scenic layout that exemplifies mid-Michigan beauty. The course offers 27 total holes that feature three unique nine-hole challenges to accommodate every level of player. A variety of bunkers, water hazards and narrow-driving holes should make any outing interesting during this par 36 course that offers 9,290 total yards of playable real estate.

Hills’ Heart of The Lakes
The Hill’s Heart of the Lakes golf course features long, rolling fairways and bent grass greens that wind throughout an elegant display of nature. The course, located in Brooklyn, is approximately 15 miles southeast of Jackson and offers a par of 69 and a total yardage of 5, 472.

The Lakeland Hills Golf Course offers an 18-hole layout with a par of 72 and a total yardage of 6,401. The front nine is straight, while the back nine dog legs and caps off with some fast greens. The course is tucked away along a curvy country road and offers a scenic view amidst some challenging obstacles.
