10 Top-Rated Public Golf Courses in DFW

Dallas-Fort Worth is home to some incredible golf courses – one of my favorite places to spend spare time when I have it. 

You can find courses designed by golf legends like Arnold Palmer and Byron Nelson. And after you’ve worked up a sweat with your golf game, many of these golf clubs also have clubhouses with fantastic dining options. 

So, without further ado… here are 10 of the top-rated public golf courses here in DFW.

1600 Fairway Dr, Grapevine TX 76051

Cowboys Golf Club in Grapevine is the first and only NFL-themed golf club in the world. It is open to the public and features a beautiful clubhouse, a golf practice facility, a world-class golf shop, banquet and meeting rooms, and (of course) the spectacular championship golf course with stone markers highlighting Dallas Cowboys history. Whether you’re a Cowboys fan or not, you’ll love golfing on this course.

3800 Fairway Dr, Grapevine TX 76051

This 27-hole course  was co-designed by golf legend Byron Nelson and features fun yet challenging obstacles making it a favorite among local golfers. The environment is absolutely stunning with an abundance of trees and its proximity to Grapevine Lake.

8718 Amen Corner, Flower Mound TX 75022

Imagine having the opportunity to play various holes from some of the greatest golf courses in America at one single course. Tour 18 offers incredible replicas of the holes from those courses! It is an oasis for the serious golfer, offering gorgeous natural landscapes and a world-class 18-hole course. The environment surrounding the Bridlewood Golf Club makes for a truly unique course made up of 25 acres of lakes and the meandering Timber Creek. It was designed by famed Golf Course Architect, D.A. Weibring and provides equal challenge at every level of play. Weibring said about the course, “We have designed Bridlewood leaving a lot of decisions in the golfers’ hands. Located in The Colony, just off the shores of Lake Lewisville is The Tribute which offers a unique Scottish links-style golf experience that pays homage to some of the legendary courses found in the birthplace of golf. They can also accommodate a wide range of private events  from small, intimate business dinners and golf tournaments to weddings and events requiring overnight accommodations.

7005 Golf Club Dr, Arlington TX 76001

Tierra Verde is the first golf course in Texas and the first municipal course in the world to be certified as an Audubon Signature Sanctuary. Each hole has five sets of tees, sculpted fairways, strategically planned sand bunkers and water hazards – all accented by beautiful trees and native grasses. The golf club also features a state-of-the-art golf learning center, a lighted driving range, three-hole practice course and a large chipping and putting green.

701 Brown Blvd, Arlington TX 76011

Since DFW is home to the first and only NFL-themed golf club, why not also open the world’s only MLB-branded golf course here as well? The Texas Rangers Golf Club opened in February 2019 and is an amazing experience for both residents and visitors of Rangers ballpark and other nearby attractions. The clubhouse is set to open sometime in 2020 and will feature a full-service restaurant and bar, pro shop, event space and more.

3750 National Pkwy, Mansfield TX 76063

Mansfield National was designed by John Colligan of Colligan Golf in Arlington and features beautiful landscapes of Bermuda fairways, water features, and beautiful trees. The course’s signature hole is No. 5 and is probably the most difficult par 3 in the metroplex. The golf club also offers a 4,000 square-foot clubhouse serving food and beverages and a fully stocked golf shop.

This Arnold Palmer-designed championship golf course is in a stunning, natural setting in Fort Worth and offers a 24-station driving range, 2 practice greens, a practice bunker and a chipping area. This Fort Worth course is comprised of two separate 18-hole courses divided by the Clear Fork of the Trinity River. The course also features a driving range with several target greens and a practice sand trap. After your game, head to the Snack Shop or sit under the outdoor covered patio to enjoy a meal.
