golf courses in temecula, ca

Whether you’re a local looking for somewhere new to try, or a visitor to town, it can be hard picking from the significant number of golf courses available. Luckily, we’ve played on most of them over the years and so are here to guide you through our favorites near Temecula, CA.

1. Legends Golf Club

Right in the center of the local wine region, this 18-hole course not only offers you a great game but also teaches the history of golf as you play. Each hole is named after one of the iconic legends who shaped the sport throughout its long history.

The course itself is a challenging setup with lakes and sand traps that need to be thoughtfully avoided. The greens are well kept and feature fast rolling grass. Players looking to improve can take all the time they need on the driving range, bunker, chipping green, or large putting green.

2. Redhawk Golf Club

You’ll find an incredibly welcoming atmosphere at this course that has one of our favorite layouts in the area. There are stunning views across the local surroundings, and the course is landscaped to be both attractive and challenging.

The famous hole eight, known as Ray’s Creek, is the signature here with its tricky island location for the green. It would be best to get this one exactly right to avoid the surrounding water, so be sure to take your time. The general facilities here are top notch, with everything you’d expect, including the fantastic Hawk’s Landing restaurant.

3. Journey at Pechanga

Housed inside a stunning resort but open to the public, this course is another 18-hole beauty with gorgeous landscaping, including a fast-flowing river. Constructed on the ancestral land of the Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians, it is famously the site of The Great Oak, which is a tree estimated to be up to 1,500 years old.

The course itself is fun and challenging to play with several elevated tees with impressive views. Facilities are as good as you would expect, being part of a five-star resort, with a large variety of restaurants and bars along with the large casino.

4. CrossCreek Golf Club

Beautifully blending in like a natural part of the pristine environment, this course designed by Arthur Hills is another incredible place to visit. Oak and sycamore trees, undulating hills, and flowing creeks provide natural challenges to go with the immaculate fairways and greens.

The par 71 setup stretches to a total of 6,853-yards if you choose to play off the championship tees. The CrossCreek Grille is the perfect spot for a meal after the game, and if you need new equipment, there is a large Pro Shop where you can get custom fitted for a new set of clubs by the in-house PGA Professional.

5. California Oaks Golf Course

Lastly, we’d like to recommend this par 70 course designed by David Rainville that has incredible views of the nearby San Jacinto mountains to enjoy as you play. This course has an excellent reputation locally for being especially friendly to beginners, juniors, and ladies, and we find that it’s very popular for social visits too.

The course is exceptionally well looked after with turf conditions that could match the finest private clubs. Post-round facilities are ideal, with the Oaks Bar & Grill offering superb views across the course as well as excellent food.
