Arcis Golf acquires Phil Mickelson’s 6-course Arizona portfolio | Golf Inc. Magazine

Arcis Golf, one of the largest and fastest-growing owners and operators of golf facilities in the US, has closed a deal to acquire six properties from Phil Mickelson, professional golfer and World Golf Hall of Fame member, and his business partner, Steve Loy.

As of today, August 3, Arcis has assumed operations of the six Phoenix-area courses. Three of the courses are private facilities, while the remaining three are daily fee courses.

“These exceptional additions to our portfolio support our strategy of owning and operating preeminent properties within each of our key hub or expansion markets,” said Blake Walker, founder and CEO of Arcis Golf. “We’re excited to bring our unique approach to delivering extraordinary experiences to members and guests at these great private and daily fee facilities.”

The three private clubs include the Stone Canyon Club in Oro Valley north of Tucson, which features an expansive clubhouse as well as spa and tennis facilities, and recently hosted The Match: Champions for Change on TNT, which featured Mickelson and Charles Barkley versus Peyton Manning and Steph Curry;the Golf Club at Chaparral Pines, which enjoys a milder climate than Phoenix proper due to its location up in the mountains of Payson and is hailed as one of Arizona’s top golf courses; and the Rim Golf Club, which is right next door and drops players into a varied course that winds between the natural rock formations the area is known for and the largest stand of Ponderosa pines in the country.

The daily fee courses include McDowell Mountain Golf Club in Scottsdale, one of the better courses in the area, with private-club-level amenities, including the popular Mesquite Grill as well as ample event space for other functions; Ocotillo Golf Club, located mere minutes from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in Chandler, a 27-hole course designed by renowned course architect Ted Robinson and has received Golf Digest’s 4 1/2 Star Best Places to Play Award; and Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, which has something for the whole family with an approachable and immensely playable family-centric experience.

Arcis Golf’s Phoenix portfolio already included five daily fee courses and four private clubs, and this acquisition further bolsters its presence in the region.

Arcis has invested more than $75 million in upgrades, amenities, personnel, training, and systems to maximize the growth and future success of its collection of private, resort, and daily fee clubs throughout the United States during the last few years. The company will continue to look for opportunities to enhance its portfolio of properties in key markets around the country.

Mickelson and Loy’s most recent purchase as a partnership was Ocotillo Golf Club in 2017. Loy was head coach of the Arizona State University Men’s Golf team when Mickelson played at the university. Mickelson won a record three NCAA championships under Loy.

“We’re thrilled to work with Arcis Golf, and we’re entrusting them to build upon the success we’ve created so far with these properties,” Mickelson said. “We were very impressed with the Arcis leadership team and their commitment to their members and guests.”
