Aruba Golf

Traditionally, the Caribbean was not thought highly of as an ideal golf destination,
but new grasses have allowed the formerly rough turf in
this region to be tamed. Now championship courses are
being designed for the islands that allow golfers to enjoy
not only a great game, but also the serene scenery that
the Caribbean is known for. Some of the most well known
courses include Casa de Campo in the Dominican
Republic, courses at the Sandy Lane Resort in Barbados,
and the Temenos Golf Club in Anguilla.
Golf in Aruba is up and coming and now there is a world-class
course on the island as well, Tierra del Sol.

Aruba golf courses offer both a challenging game, rugged terrain dotted with cactus and water features, and expansive views of the ocean. Golf in Aruba is challenging due to the steady trade winds that blow across the island, creating a game that requires some skill and the constant reward of mastering these challenges. Several Aruba golf courses are found on the island.

Tierra del Sol is the premier par 71 course to play golf in Aruba. Located on the northwest tip of the island, Tierra del Sol was designed by Robert Trent Jones II and is the only 18-hole championship golf course in Aruba. Not far from the resort areas in Oranjestad or Palm Beach, this course is accessible to the public. It also includes a full practice range, chipping and putting practice, and a golf shop. Hazzards on the course include sand traps, cactus and coral, and water features, but by far the biggest hazzard of all is the wind. Especially here on the tip of the island, the winds require careful negotiations even for the most skilled of players. An especially interesting feature of this course is the Parview GPS system installed in the golf carts. From anywhere on the course, players can view statistics on the holes, see exact distances to the holes from the cart, keep track of scores, and even communicate with the clubhouse to order lunch.

Tierra del Sol is much more than simply a golf course, however, and if you wish to explore the best of Aruba golf vacations, this is one of the best places to do it. Ranging from affordable to luxurious, villas are available to rent at this resort and the amenities that come along with them make for a comfortable stay. A fitness center, tennis courts, sauna, pools, and restaurants are on the grounds. Or try out one of the Aruba golf packages with Tierra del Sol’s Golf and Spa package — spend your days on the links, get a massage, and lounge in a villa with your own private pool.

Other Aruba golf packages are offered through the Divi Village Golf and Beach Resort. Located near Palm Beach, this resort pairs the traditional Aruba resort experience with a tropically landscaped 9-hole and par 36 golf course. Enjoy easy beach access, nearby casinos, a wide array of dining options, and activities along with the golf course. Aruba golf packages are offered by both the Divi Village Golf Resort and Divi Dutch village. Both resorts include 3 nights in a studio suite, golf, and transportation to and from the airport for one set price. This course, like Tierra del Sol, has ample hazzards and wind to deal with. However, there is a bit more around this course to block or deter winds.

Other Aruba golf courses are the Aruba Golf Club and Aruba Golf & Leisure. Aruba Golf Club is located on the other end of the island near San Nicolas and features a 9-hole course and clubhouse with a bar, lockers, and showers. The oldest course on the island, the golf club is a desert course with very little grass and the course prides itself on the wildlife found here.

Aruba Golf and Leisure is in Palm Beach and offers golf clinics along with a lunch or dinner coupon. This facility also has batting cages, a gameroom, internet room, a playground, and a restaurant.

For families, the largest miniature golf course in the Caribbean is in Aruba. Adventure Golf has two 18-hole courses, bumper boats, a game room, paddle boats, batting cages, and go karts.

For golf aficionados or beginners, or even for families looking to spend an evening out together, golf courses in Aruba are fun, challenging, and amazingly gorgeous.
