Business Management, Associate of Applied Science
This curriculum is designed to prepare students seeking employment in business and for those who are already employed and who wish to upgrade their skills. Graduates of this program can expect to be hired in entry-level management positions, such as: supervisor, office manager, marketing representative, etc. The program can be taken on a full-time or part-time basis. After completing the program and obtaining employment, students often elect to continue their education by working towards a bachelor's degree on a part-time basis at a four-year college/university in the area.
This program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). The attainment of this accreditation certifies that the teaching and learning processes within the Business Studies Department meet the rigorous educational standards established by the ACBSP.
Upon successful completion of this degree, students will be able to:
- demonstrate mastery of financial and managerial accounting concepts by preparing balance sheets, income statements, statements of cash flows, and budgets and by performing cost, volume, and profit analysis;
- demonstrate mastery of the process and functions of management (planning, organizing, leading, staffing, and controlling) and the principles of managerial decision making through written assignments and in-class exercises designed to promote strategic thinking and analysis;
- compare and contrast the forms of business ownership (sole proprietorship, partnership, corporation, and hybrid forms) and understand the major steps involved in developing a business plan for the formation of a new business;
- develop a marketing plan that employs the four Ps of marketing (product, price, promotion, and place);
- calculate, interpret, and/or analyze key macroeconomic and microeconomic indicators for the US economy used to predict and describe business cycles, and recognize the increasing interdependence of the US economy with other world trading partners;
- create, design, and deliver effective and well-organized oral and written presentations utilizing state-of-the-art technology;
- analyze the relationship between human resource management issues in the workplace and changing ethical and legal issues and how these changing paradigms impact the human resource management of a culturally diverse workforce.
