Cleveland Patios: 40 of the Best Patios in Cleveland to Enjoy in 2022

There is nothing like sitting on a patio with a refreshing beverage during a hot summer day in Cleveland. In fact, it’s kind of a summertime must-do! Many of the city’s bars, restaurants, and cafes have great patio spaces, so there’s no shortage of places to go for that summer drink.

Whether you are hoping to meet up with friends or cool off on a warm day, here are some of the best patios in Cleveland!

Note: There are a LOT of patios in Cleveland these days! This list covers some of our personal favorites across different Cleveland neighborhoods, but know that this isn’t an exhaustive list! It’s also not in any particular order, but rather is grouped by neighborhood to make browsing easier.

40 Great Cleveland Patios to Enjoy

Ready to explore the best patios in Cleveland for dinner or drinks? Look no further. Our list is grouped roughly by location, but these are in no particular order.

PS, here’s a map so you can easily see where all these great patios are!

Note 2: While patios were traditionally “first come, first served” in the Before Times, patios tables are now a hot commodity at most restaurants! Because of this, some spots ARE taking reservations for patio tables, so our advice is to give restaurants a call if you have your heart set on dining outdoors on a specific day.

The best downtown Cleveland patios

1. Hofbrauhaus Cleveland

1550 Chester Ave., Cleveland (Downtown)

*This patio (er, biergarten) is confirmed to be dog-friendly!

Prost! While this may sound like a strange first suggestion, Hofbrauhaus is one of the best downtown Cleveland spots with a patio. Only don’t call it a patio… it’s a biergarten!

Full of all of the spirit of the original Hofbrauhaus in Munich, you’ll love the traditional Bavarian fare like bratwurst, potato pancakes, and, of course, beer that follows the Bavarian Beer Purity Law of 1516. This law mandates that only water, hops, barley, and yeast (later added) can be used in beer.

Grab your liter of Dunkel or Hefe Weizen and enjoy the biergarten.

2. East 4th St.

East 4th StreetEast 4th StreetE 4th Street in the morning

We can’t talk about downtown patios without talking about E. 4th St. The whole street off Euclid is basically one big patio; all of the restaurants here offer outdoor seating.

Some favorite spots here include Mabel’s BBQ, Butcher and the Brewer, and Flannery’s Pub.

The best patios in The Flats

The Flats – the flat area on both sides of the Cuyahoga River – is one of the up-and-coming areas in Cleveland. The East Bank of The Flats has already gone through its transformation, and other areas along the river are next!

1. Collision Bend Brewing Company

1250 Old River Rd, Cleveland (The Flats)

Collision Bend patioCollision Bend patioCollision Bend river view

Located on the waterfront down on the east bank of the Flats, this brewery is one of a kind! Not only are they serving up some fantastic beer like the Lake Erie Sunset wheat beer and the Putzfrau Schwarzbier, but they have incredible food to boot!

From watermelon gazpacho on their sharable small plates menu to the hot honey chicken sandwich, this is a great spot for dinner or to get together with friends.

Collision Bend has a fantastic and large patio, too, with views out over the Cuyahoga River. Parts of this patio are covered, while parts are unshaded. No matter where you site, though, this is an excellent place to enjoy a drink while you watch a Cuyahoga sunset.

2. Lindey’s Lake House

1146 Old River Rd, Cleveland (The Flats)

*This patio is confirmed to be dog-friendly!

Lindy's Lake House FlatsLindy's Lake House FlatsLindey’s Lake House under the Main Ave. Bridge

This place was inspired by the owner’s time each summer at their family lakehouse in Michigan. Today, they bring that spirit (and farm-to-table ingredients) to Lindey’s Lake House.

Located right on the water just under the Main Avenue Bridge (the blue bridge) in the Flats, this place has patio living perfected from the adirondack chairs to the astroturf that’ll have you feeling that maybe you are in their little Michigan lake house, too. There’s even a ping pong table!

When it comes to what to order here, it definitely has to be a cocktail or two to pair with any seafood dish.

3. Alley Cat Oyster Bar

1056 Old River Rd., Cleveland (The Flats)

Alley Cat patioAlley Cat patioUmbrellas up at Alley Cat

Alley Cat Oyster Bar sits right on the Cuyahoga River leading into Lake Erie, meaning you’ll get beautiful views of kayakers floating down the river, boats passing by, and some fantastic views of both the water and city skyline.

And Alley Cat actually has TWO patio areas – the lower one right on the river, and a second patio one floor up, complete with an outdoor bar.

Alley Cat upper bar patioAlley Cat upper bar patioUpper level of Alley Cat’s patio

Aside from the obvious oysters you’ve got to order here, don’t forget to try some walleye, scallops, or even a lobster roll as you enjoy a craft beer or a few cocktails including the Cat’s Pajamas (homemade lemonade with Tito’s vodka and choice of no flavoring, blueberry-basil, or strawberry-jalapeno) or Elderflower Fizz (elderflower liqueur, Absolut vodka, lemon, lime, prosecco).

It is the perfect place to end a summer day in Cleveland.

4. Merwin’s Wharf

1785 Merwin Ave, Cleveland

Merwin's Wharf patioMerwin's Wharf patioMerwin’s Wharf patio

Located within Rivergate Park in the part of The Flats known as Irishtown Bend, Merwin’s Wharf is a unique spot run by the Cleveland Metroparks.

They have a large bar area and lots of outdoor tables sitting right next to the Cuyahoga River. You can watch rowers and other boaters from your table as you enjoy comfort foods like mac and cheese, a walleye sandwich, or one of their “big pretzels,” which weighs 1.5 pounds!

The best patios in Ohio City

Ohio City has no shortage of patios and outdoor spaces!

1. Great Lakes Brewing Company

2516 Market Ave., Cleveland

Great Lakes Ohio City patioGreat Lakes Ohio City patioIn the last two years, the area outside GLBC has been one big patio!

Great Lakes Brewing Company is a fantastic Cleveland bar with a patio! Great Lakes opened in 1986 in their Ohio City location, and has been brewing up European-style beers ever since.

Located on Market Avenue with views of the West Side Market, this charming street is perfect for people-watching. With ample seating and plenty of shady spots, you can enjoy a crisp summer beer after a long day.

Some classics to try include the Dortmunder Gold lager, Holy Moses white ale, and Burning River IPA. I also recommend some summer brews like the Siren Shores Passion Fruit saison or the Mexican Lager with lime.

2. Market Ave Wine Bar

2521 Market Ave., Cleveland

If beer isn’t your thing, then cross the street on Market Avenue for this charming wine bar instead. This place also has a lovely patio that looks out towards the West Side Market and Market Square.

Perfect for a date night or relaxing evening drinking with friends, this place serves small plates and has a large wine selection ranging from French Bordeaux to California Pinot Noir.

They also have tasty cocktails and a rotating beer selection. Basically, this place has all of the wonderful drinks to pair with their equally stunning patio.

3. Market Garden Brewpub

1947 W 25th St, Cleveland

*This patio (and beer garden) is confirmed to be dog-friendly!

Market Garden BrewpubMarket Garden Brewpub

Back to the beer now – but also great food! Market Garden serves up good appetizers (like Bavarian pretzels and beer-battered pickles), alongside salad, sandwich, and pan pizza options. They also do brunch on weekends.

Eat a meal or just enjoy a beer flight on Market Garden’s front patio or back beer garden tucked in beside the West Side Market. Market Garden’s beer garden is punctuated by a ginormous outdoor fireplace, and long high-top tables with festive twinkle lights hung above them.

This is one of our favorite outdoor patio spaces in all seasons!

4. Nano Brew

1859 W 25th St, Cleveland

This bike-themed brewpub is a favorite in Ohio City. It’s associated with Market Garden Brewery – but Nano Brew is where you’ll find all the cool, experimental small-batch beers.

Along with enjoying Nano and MGB beers here, they also have a tasty menu of locally-sourced dishes (many of which use ingredients that come from the Ohio City Farm). Their burgers are the most popular, but they also do a great brunch on the weekends.

Outside, you can enjoy beer and food on their two-level patio, which consists of a covered bar area and several partially-covered and uncovered areas with tables. This is a really cool patio!

Along with brunch, Nano Brew also does pub trivia every Thursday, as well as hosts and monthly drag show.

5. Rising Star Coffee/Larder in Hingetown

1455 W. 29th St., Cleveland

Patio at Rising Star Coffee in HingetownPatio at Rising Star Coffee in HingetownOutside Rising Star in Hingetown

When we’re talking about Cleveland’s best patios, we would be remiss if we didn’t mention this gem in Ohio City. Rising Star has 5 locations for great coffee around the Cleveland area, but this place in Hingetown is my favorite.

The Hingetown location is their original cafe and is in an old firehouse. They have a beautiful garage door that they open during the warmer months of the year, and have ample seating outside that they share with neighbor Larder Delicatessen and Bakery.

While I recommend many of their fantastic pour over coffees, I also love their lattes! Plus, each coffee they serve comes with a little glass of sparkling water – perfect for sitting outside.

This is a great spot for reading or doing some work in the morning before exploring other great Cleveland patios later in the day!

6. Jukebox

1404 W. 29th St., Cleveland (Ohio City)

*This patio is confirmed to be dog-friendly!

Across the street from Rising Star is one of my favorite haunts in Cleveland: Jukebox. It’s been mentioned on Cleveland Traveler for its tasty pierogies before, but this bar also has a fantastic patio!

They serve several local beers on tap and have plenty of cocktails and wines to choose from. Plus, when Cleveland sports teams are playing, they have a large projector out on the patio to watch the games!

7. The Harp

4408 Detroit Ave., Cleveland (Ohio City)

This Irish pub and restaurant with a patio is perfect for summer evenings. Their patio is located at the back of the restaurant, and you can order a drink or maybe some fish and chips or shepherd’s pie and enjoy the views towards Lake Erie. We love hanging out here in the evenings.

Don’t forget to try some great Irish beers like Guinness, Harp, or Smithwicks, or even mix it up with their mixed draughts like Black and Tan (Bass Ale and Guinness), Black and Gold (Great Lakes Brewing Company Dortmunder Gold and Guinness), or Black Velvet (Strongbow Cider and Guinness).

8. Le Petit Triangle Cafe

1881 Fulton Rd., Cleveland (Ohio City)

Whenever I want to feel like I’ve stepped out of Cleveland and onto an exquisite French sidewalk cafe, I go to this little French bistro in Ohio City.

Specializing in French classics like escargot, crepes, cassoulet, and more, you can enjoy one of Cleveland’s best restaurants along with its cute patio out front of the restaurant. Pair your meal with a glass of French wine, and you have all the ingredients for a great al fresco meal.

9. Platform Beer Co

4125 Lorain Ave., Cleveland (Ohio City)

Platform has six locations across Ohio and now Pennsylvania, but their original location that was opened in 2014 is still the best. With over 20 beers on tap and a beautiful outdoor patio, it’s the perfect spot to enjoy some sunshine and a flight of their latest summer beer innovations.

Try the Twisted Amalgamation, a newly released barrel aged wheat stout, or the Haze Jude hazy IPA. Or you can also always enjoy a refreshing Speed Merchant IPA or Rosellini peach rose apple ale any time of year.

The best patios in Tremont and Clark-Fulton

1. Barrio Tremont

806 Literary Rd., Cleveland (Tremont)

Margaritas, salsa, and make-your-own tacos. It’s a simple concept, but it has blown up in the Cleveland area. Barrio now boasts 9 locations in the Greater Cleveland area, East Lansing, Michigan, and Portsmouth, New Hampshire. But today, we’re talking all about their flagship location in Tremont.

This place not only has a fabulous mural over their restaurant, but it is the perfect patio for sipping margaritas and chowing down on tacos! Oh… and don’t forget that Stoner Queso! Come for happy hour and stay for a delicious and filling dinner out on their patio in the heart of Tremont.

2. The South Side

2207 W 11th St., Cleveland (Tremont)

*This patio is confirmed to be dog-friendly!

The Southside patioThe Southside patioSouth Side patio in summer

This place has it all: brunch, whiskey, and a great happy hour. Aside from that, the South Side also has a wonderful patio that is large and perfect for late night snacking or a sunny brunch with a bloody Mary or other bubbly cocktail.

Their menu and specials are always changing here, too, meaning you can always find something new to try. Some of our favorites include their Fat Kid Nachos, Hot Honey chicken and waffles, and their buffalo cauliflower tacos.

3. Edison’s Pub

2373 Professor Ave., Cleveland (Tremont)

Some days all you need is a greasy slice of pizza, a cold beer, and a hidden garden patio to enjoy both in. That’s where Edison’s Pub comes in!

Order up pizza by the slice inside and a craft beer at their wooden bar filled with beer memorabilia. Then, enter into the sunshine on their patio, complete with a fountain and ivy growing everywhere.

4. The Treehouse

820 College Ave., Cleveland (Tremont)

The Treehouse pub in TremontThe Treehouse pub in TremontTreehouse patio

This spot is pretty unique in that there is a giant fake tree sprouting out from the interior of the restaurant. So while I recommend checking that out, you should also go check out the sprawling patio out back.

Sit under a bright red umbrella as you enjoy the giant Guinness mural on the back wall. Perhaps also order a pint of Guinness and some loaded tots and fries – this is an Irish pub, after all!

5. Johnny’s Bar on Fulton

3164 Fulton Rd., Cleveland (Clark-Fulton)

This place dates back to 1920 when it was known as Louise’s Garden, a lovely restaurant with a charming atmosphere. Then, it became Johnny’s Bar in 1952. The garden remains one of Cleveland’s best patios to this day, with ivy crawling up the stone wall and a bubbling fountain surrounded by flowers at the center.

Johnny’s Bar is all about northern Italian cuisine, with dishes like pasta putanaise, veal parmesan, and salt crusted lamb rack. Even if you choose to just go for drinks, they have an award-winning wine menu including wines from Italy, France, and California.

History, a wonderful outdoor space, and delightful food and drink options? It’s the perfect Cleveland restaurant with a patio!

Patios in Gordon Square and Edgewater Hill

1. Toast Cleveland

1365 W. 65th St., Cleveland (Gordon Square)

Toast patioToast patioToast’s cozy patio

Who doesn’t love a dreamy patio complete with string lights and cozy seating? Toast Cleveland is the spot for small plates, cocktails, and, of course, wine.

While I certainly think it’s perfect during the Rose Smackdown event where it competes with Banter for the best old and new world wine each May, it truly is the perfect spot to hang out for drinks anytime.

So come here for the vibrant wine selection like M Cellars Pinot Noir or Portuguese Vinho Verde, and stay for the delicious carrot risotto and curry poached wolffish.

2. Astoria Cafe & Market

5417 Detroit Ave, Cleveland (Detroit-Shoreway)

*This patio is confirmed to be dog-friendly!

Astoria patio at nightAstoria patio at nightAstoria’s patio at night

Astoria makes for a great place to take a date, as it’s one part Mediterranean market, one part cafe, and one part wine/cocktail bar. It also has a fairly sizable patio on one side of the building, accented with wooden planters and festive market lights.

In the market, you’ll find imported cheeses, cured meats, olives, pasta, and grab-and-go food prepared at the deli. On the dine-in menu, you’ll find a variety of charcuterie and cheese boards, soups, sandwiches, and Mediterranean-inspired small plates and entrees.

Astoria also does a great brunch on weekends, and has a happy hour Tuesday-Saturday from 3-5 p.m.

3. Flight Cleveland

5712 Detroit Ave, Cleveland (Detroit-Shoreway)

*This patio is confirmed to be dog-friendly!

Flight patioFlight patioThe Flight patio in May

One of our favorite wine bars in Cleveland, Flight in Gordon Square has a really fun patio in addition to its trendy interior. The patio here has bright turquoise table sets, and a fun painted floor. There isn’t any shade here, though, so be sure to bring a hat and sunglasses on a hot summer day.

Flight is (unsurprisingly) known for its themed wine flights, and also has charcuterie and cheese boards and other snacks on the menu. You can also order wine by the glass to enjoy on this cheerful patio.

4. Terrestrial Brewing

7524 Father Frascati, Cleveland (Edgewater Hill)

*This patio is confirmed to be dog-friendly!

If you can’t tell, Cleveland has a lot of fantastic breweries with patios. Terrestrial Brewing is no exception. This spot, located between downtown and Lakewood and within walking distance of Edgewater Beach, is laid back and has peekaboo views of the lake from its patio.

There are just some places that you go to seasonally for a certain reason. Terrestrial Brewing is a place I love to visit in the summer after a long day of work. I order one of their craft beers like the Chit’s Good New England IPA or Paloma grapefruit and lime sour beer and sit out at a picnic table on their patio.

They are dog friendly, meaning you’ll probably make a friend or two (with or without fur) while sipping a beer and enjoying the sunshine.

5. All Saints Public House

1261 W 76th St, Cleveland (Battery Park)

*This patio is confirmed to be dog-friendly!

All Saints Public House patioAll Saints Public House patioAll Saints patio in the fall

Newly opened in 2020, All Saints has become a local favorite for those looking for a cool bar space with a beautiful patio. The fenced-in patio is surrounded by trees, and features a small fountain in the center.

The patio has some umbrellas and also a covered outdoor bar area, making this a great spot if you crave some shade along with your food and drinks.

All Saints has seasonal food and craft cocktail menus, and even a late-night food menu served from 10pm-midnight.

The best patios in Lakewood

1. Lakewood Truck Park

16900 Detroit Ave, Lakewood

*This patio is confirmed to be dog-friendly!

Lakewood Truck ParkLakewood Truck ParkLakewood Truck Park

Lakewood Truck Park is less of a restaurant and more of a bar/patio concept. With one large indoor bar and one outdoor bar, the space has picnic tables, fire pits, and a rotating selection of local food trucks.

This is a great spot to grab a drink and a bite to eat in Lakewood. You can check which food trucks will be at Lakewood Truck Park on any given day here. (In the summer, you can usually count on at least two different trucks each evening.)

2. Barocco

12906 Madison Ave, Lakewood

A Colombian arepa bar AND a fantastic patio? Sold. This place in Lakewood on the west side of Cleveland is always serving up the best arepas as well as other Latin American classics like ceviche, empanadas, pupusas, and crispy plantains.

And while you enjoy the laid back patio atmosphere with twinkle lights, and the tasty food, I also recommend trying out some of their cocktails like a caipirinha, pina colada, or a paloma!

They also have two other great spots in Crocker Park and Willoughby.

3. Harlow’s Pizza

14319 Madison Ave, Lakewood

Harlow's patioHarlow's patioCute patio at Harlow’s

Harlow’s makes some of our favorite pizza in Cleveland inside their small Lakewood shop, but what some people don’t know is that you can enjoy a wood-fired pie out on their adorable patio, too!

You can’t go wrong with any of their Neapolitan-style pizza, but our favorite is the Leonardo, or just a classic Margherita.

4. Georgetown | Vosh

18515 Detroit Rd, Lakewood

The courtyard at Georgetown and Vosh is one of our favorite winter patio dining destinations because of the heated igloos they put up each fall. But the Georgetown patio is of course lovely in all seasons! It’s set up like a large, leafy courtyard and is a romantic place for a meal.

They serve up modern American fare here, and have lots of small plates that are perfect for sharing.

5. Pier W

12700 Lake Ave., Lakewood

Looking for a Cleveland restaurant with a patio that is a bit more upscale? Look no further than Pier W. Not only does the restaurant have sweeping views over Lake Erie, but the patio is perfect for summer sunsets and calm sounds of the waves.

Designed to look like the hull of a ship, this restaurant dates back to 1965, and aside from their famed views of the city and lake, they are also well-known for happy hour and Sunday brunch.

Grab a delicious seafood dinner here including Maine lobster or Lake Erie walleye, as well as a glass of wine from their extensive wine list.

Note: Patio seating is first-come, first-served, and dinner reservations are usually recommended.

Great patios in Buckeye-Shaker

1. Batuqui Brazilian Restaurant

12706 Larchmere Blvd, Cleveland (Buckeye-Shaker)

Feel right at home on the patio at this Brazilian restaurant. Created by two Brazilian chefs who wanted to bring authentic Brazilian food and drinks to Cleveland, this place has all of the meaty and delicious Brazilian dishes you’ll love to try right alongside some excellent cocktails (don’t leave without trying a Caipirinha!).

On top of the good food, the back patio is really charming with plants everywhere, making it feel like you’re really in someone’s backyard for a delicious feast!

They often have live music on the patio on weekends.

2. Academy Tavern

12800 Larchmere Blvd, Cleveland (Buckeye-Shaker)

This rustic tavern has been serving food here in Cleveland since 1939! This place may not look like there is much going on inside from the front of it, but out back there is a huge patio complete with live music on select evenings.

So for dinner, drinks, and fantastic jams, opt for Academy Tavern for a great Cleveland patio.

3. Felice Urban Cafe

12502 Larchmere Blvd., Cleveland (Buckeye-Shaker)

Located just down the street from Larchmere Tavern, this gem on the eastside of Cleveland wants you to feel at home. It is even located in a turn-of-the-century home!

This restaurant has it all: first floor dining room, bar on the second floor, one of the best patios in Cleveland in the back, and locally grown food (some from their own garden)!

Here they serve both small, large, and even family-style plates ranging from crispy goat cheese, pork belly banh-mi, and the always comforting mac n cheese.

For American fusion comfort food and a delightful patio, this is the perfect combination for a Cleveland restaurant.

Cleveland Heights patios to visit

The East Side has some awesome patios, too!

1. The Fairmount

2448 Fairmount Blvd., Cleveland Heights

The Fairmount patio in springThe Fairmount patio in springFairmount patio in spring

Serving up seasonal ingredients and herbs from their own garden, The Fairmont has a delicious variety of food including flatbreads, poke bowls, burgers, and vegan cuisine.

But more importantly, they are a fantastic Cleveland bar with a patio! This beautiful patio is surrounded by lush green plants and has a large cocktail bar, making it perfect for sipping on beer, wine, or one of their many craft cocktails.

Cocktails on the Fairmount patioCocktails on the Fairmount patioIf the Frose is on their menu when you visit, definitely order it!

If you are searching for Cleveland patios on the East Side to grab a drink, this is the place to go!

Also look out for their patio specials menu, which changes daily.

2. Boss Dog Brewing Co.

2179 Lee Rd, Cleveland Heights

I love a place with a huge garage door that can be lifted so everyone in the restaurant can enjoy the breeze on a beautiful day. That is what Boss Dog Brewing Co. offers. The door also extends out onto a huge patio with ample lights and even heat lamps for chillier autumn evenings.

Check out their Belgian Blonde ale, Hazelnut Latte Milk Stout, or snag a flight of beer and head out onto the patio for a perfect end to a Cleveland day.

3. Anatolia Cafe

2270 Lee Rd, Cleveland Heights

This little Turkish cafe has a delightful patio right along the sidewalk on Lee Road, making it perfect for people-watching. It’s also perfect for enjoying tasty Turkish and Mediterranean dishes like kebabs, falafel, hummus, and of course baklava for dessert!

This laid back Cleveland restaurant with a patio is great for a casual date night in Cleveland Heights.

Other great Cleveland patios

These patios don’t fit into the neighborhood sections above, but are still great options!

1. East 55th On the Lake

5555 N Marginal Rd, Cleveland

Located right on Lake Erie on the East 55th Street Marina east of downtown, this spot is perfect for watching people cruise past on their boats, or perhaps enjoying a sunset on this large patio restaurant in Cleveland.

Enjoy their seafood meals and a cold beer as you relax and get on Lake Erie time.

2. Guarino’s Restaurant

12309 Mayfield Rd., Cleveland (Little Italy)

Guarinos PatioGuarinos PatioGuarino’s patio

Opened in the early 1900s by Italian immigrant Vincenzo Guarino, what started out as a tavern slowly evolved into a restaurant. It was Vincenzo’s son Sam who had the garden out back built for formal dining, and the patio even has a trumpet vine that was planted by Vincenzo still standing today.

While you’ll enjoy the Victorian-style decor inside this establishment in Little Italy, this place is also well-known as having one of the best patios in Cleveland!

Definitely grab a classic cocktail like a Negroni or Manhattan before tasting their Italian American classics like lasagna (a 50-year old recipe!) or veal marsala.

3. The Standard

779 E 185th St, Cleveland

For an east side spot with a great menu AND great patio, The Standard in Collinwood is a good bet. This cozy bistro serves up Mediterranean dishes and good cocktails.

They also have a garden-like back patio area that’s always popular during the warmer months. You can listen to live jazz music out there every Thursday evening.

4. Rocky River Wine Bar

1313 Linda St, Rocky River

There are several great places to sip wine with friends in Cleveland (check out our wine bar guide!), but Rocky River Wine Bar is arguably one of the best, especially if you want to enjoy your wine outdoors on a cute patio.

Along with an extensive wine list, you can also enjoy seasonal food menus here.
