Eminem’s Mom’s Spaghetti Is Making a Comeback in District Detroit

Eminem is bringing back Mom’s Spaghetti.

The name for the planned restaurant, of course, comes from the unforgettable opening lines of Em’s “Lose Yourself” — “His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy/There’s vomit on his sweater already, mom’s spaghetti.”

The new restaurant will make its home at 2131 Woodward Ave., within the Union Assembly, the massive restaurant that opened this week in the District Detroit across from Comerica Park. The opening for Mom’s Spaghetti, a walk-up window and small diner, is set for 5 p.m. Wednesday, September 29.

Mom’s Spaghetti isn’t a new concept. Eminem aka Marshall Mathers aka Slim Shady and his manager Paul Rosenberg first launched it as a pop-up at the Shelter in 2017 in conjunction with the release of the hometown rapper’s “Revival” album. The pop-up then made intermittent appearances at various Eminem live performances, including Coachella, Firefly, and Governor’s Ball. Last year, Shady Records contracted Union Joints to serve the spaghetti to frontline workers at Henry Ford and DMC hospitals and to those administering vaccinations at the TCF Center garage in Detroit. The new restaurant, a permanent spot, also is a partnership with Union Joints, owner of Union Assembly.

“The previous pop-ups were really a test for us to determine whether there was enthusiasm for a regularly-occurring Mom’s Spaghetti spot that would be open all year long,” Rosenberg says in a news release.

Wondering what’s on the menu at Mom’s Spaghetti? Well, “spaghetti, meatballs, spaghetti with meatballs, or no meatballs, and the s’ghetti sandwich,” according to the phone line connected with the eatery. (Call 313-888-8388 for more deets on the spot.) Along with the spaghetti, the restaurant will include “The Trailer,” an upstairs store for Eminem uber-fans. A nod to B. Rabbit’s trailer from “8 Mile,” the space features Mom’s Spaghetti merch, items from the Eminem retail collection (including limited editions and coveted dead stock) and memorabilia from the archives. Expect drops in this rotating stock in this space, which is limited to eight people at a time.

Despite much speculation, there’s no word on whether Slim Shady will deliver a new LP as well. According to an Eminem Reddit account, fans suggest that new music, possibly The Marshall Mathers LP III, will drop on Friday, October 1. It’s also unclear whether the Detroit-bred rapper will be involved with cooking at Mom’s Spaghetti.
