From takeout to 5-course meal: 9 best deals and meals of Providence Restaurant Weeks

Neither cold, nor rain nor COVID will stop this winter’s Providence Restaurant Weeks. The dining deals from restaurants, not just in Providence but across the state, start Sunday, Jan. 9, and run through Jan. 22.

If you aren’t comfortable dining out, many of the deals are available for takeout. 

More than 45 restaurants are participating. Each day, more of them post their menus online at ProvidenceRestaurantWeeks.com. Check back if you don’t see the restaurant of your choice or a menu. 

There are all levels of entry to Providence Restaurant Weeks. You can find deals as simple as getting a free dessert with purchase of an entree all the way up to a five-course dinner.

The dining program has been a popular event for more than a decade. It’s sponsored by the Providence Warwick Convention & Visitors Bureau.  

Going through the list of menus posted at press time, here are nine choices that stand out. They offer lunch or dinner, casual or elegant dining, and even gluten-free options.

Your chance to score a table at Matunuck Oyster Bar

Matunuck Oyster Bar, 629 Succotash Rd., South Kingstown, (401) 783-4202, rhodyoysters.com, is impossible to get in most of the year. Now is your chance to score a table and, and as a bonus, get a deal. Their special is three courses for $35.95. Start with four oysters or a small salad. Second course is a choice that includes a stuffie or cup of chowder, either Rhode Island or New England style. Then choose any entree on the menu for the final course, though there is an additional charge for steak or lobster. The deal is not offered on Saturdays.   

A seafood ‘Appy Hour’ at Federal Taphouse and Kitchen

Federal Taphouse & Kitchen, 279 Atwells Ave., Providence, (401) 454-8881, federaltandk.com, offers “Appy Hour” specials from 4 to 6 p.m. daily with $1.50 oysters, $1 littlenecks and cherrystones and $3 shrimp cocktail. They also have a menu of $8 appetizers and small plates.

Hemenway’s: A Providence classic

Hemenway’s Restaurant, 121 South Main St., Providence, (401) 351-8570,  hemenwaysrestaurant.com, is a Providence classic. You never go wrong here. They have the most excellent Restaurant Week deal of $34.95 for three courses. Choose from clam chowder, pear salad and salmon croquettes for a first course. Entree choice is Roasted Salmon, Sea Bream, Lemon-Pepper Shrimp Linguini and Roasted Half Chicken. Finish up with a dessert of either Chocolate Cheesecake, Citrus & Cardamom Creme Brulee or White Chocolate Mousse Torte.

$2.00 tacos in Lincoln R.I.

Oz Tacos & Tequila, 200 Front St., Lincoln, (401) 475-4017, oztacostequila.com, is fun and casual with delicious Mexican food and drinks. Now’s the perfect time to give them a try because they are offering $2 tacos from 3 to 5 p.m. with the purchase of a beverage. And you want to try one of their cocktails. 

Triple the mozzarella? Try a new pie at Providence’s Pizza Marvin 

Pizza Marvin, 468 Wickenden St., Providence,  (401) 262-3336, pizzamarvin.com, is a fun new, retro pizza parlor on the East Side. Here’s your chance to enjoy their spicy greens salad with Atwells Gold cheese and lemon vinaigrette, an order of meatballs topped with ricotta and their House Cheese pizza with triple mozzarella and Parmesan for $39.95. That’s a savings of more than $5.

A three-course meal with something for everyone at Metacom Kitchen

Metacom Kitchen, 322 Metacom Ave., Warren, (401) 245-1193, metacomkitchen.com, offers three courses for $35 with so many choices there is something for everyone. Appetizers include their excellent Chickpea Fries with aioli as well as Smoked Carrot Tartare, Romaine Salad or housemade Spinach Fusilli with local mushrooms. Entrees include Duck Breast and Leg, Kurobuta Pork Osso Buco, and Ocean Noodles. Desserts include cheesecake, Chocolate Pots de Creme, and Coffee, Chicory and Sunflower Seed Ice Cream Sandwich.

Lunch and dinner deals at Il Massimo

Il Massimo, 134 Atwells Ave., Providence, (401) 273-0650, massimori.com, is one of the few places offering both lunch and dinner deals. The cost for a three-course lunch is $19.95 while the three-course dinner costs $39.95. For lunch, start with a salad or pasta e fagioli soup. Of the six entree choices, all but one, including pasta dishes, are gluten free or can be made gluten free. Even the dessert cannoli can be made gluten free. 

Looking ahead this year in dining: Coming in 2022 and people who matter

Three courses at Res American Bistro

Res American Bistro, 123 Empire St., Providence, (401) 272-3965, respvd.com, offers three courses for $36 for dinner.  Add in a filet mignon choice and the cost is $46. If you have a game in Providence or some other event, Res has the experience to get you in and out. They are conveniently located across from Trinity Repertory Theater. Res is now requiring proof of vaccination for dining, and the deal is not offered on Saturday night. 

A five-course tasting menu from Gracie’s

Gracie’s, 194 Washington St., Providence,  (401) 272-7811, graciesprov.com, has restaurant week down to a science. They’ve been doing Restaurant Weeks for many of their 23 years. This time around, their five-course tasting menu is $80 per person. A wine-pairing option is $40. It will all be an elegant delight.
