Big Island Kona Golf Courses

Makalei Golf Club

On the hillside of Mount Hualalai, Makalei Golf Club sits among lush forest and cool air. An alternative to the island’s coastal golf in Hawaii course experiences this course features many unique attributes including cinder cones, bent grass greens, lava tubes alongside many species of wildlife such as peacocks, pheasants and wild turkeys. Open for all skill levels this beautiful course has multiples tees extending the course from 5,242 yards to a championship length of 7,091 yards. Half of the 18 holes on this breath-taking multi-elevation course feature challenging water obstacles; the 17th hole is renowned for its par-3 island green. If you’re lucky to spot Maui’s Mount Haleakala in the distance at Hole #8!

Kona Country Club

Just six miles south of Kona on Ali‘i Drive you will find the magnificent Kona Country Club. Rated by Golf Digest as one of the Top 100 courses in the country, this William Bell-designed championship course takes full advantage of the picturesque Pacific coastline and the area’s unique geological features. The Bermuda grass course is peppered with numerous sand traps and daunting lava rock formations; the thirteenth hole features an impressive ocean blowhole.

Waikoloa Village Golf Club

This beautiful Robert Trent Jones-designed course offers commanding mountain and ocean views, and on a clear day, the island of Maui is visible across the channel. With its wide expanses of undulating terrain, forested fringes, and numerous sand traps, this challenging course will test golfers of all levels.

Waikoloa Beach Resort

Two breathtaking golf courses, one unforgettable experience. The Beach Course opened in 1981, the Robert Trent Jones II-designed Beach Course is Big Island Golf at its finest. A classic resort-style layout, it won’t beat you up with length, better players will appreciate the strategic shot values required, and everyone will thrill at its beauty. Waikoloa Beach Resort Golf reaches a crescendo at the Kings’ Course, which delivers a memorable round from the first tee to the 18th green. It is a “player’s course” in the sense that low-handicappers can tee it up from 7,000-plus yards and have all the length and strategy they can handle; while mid- and high-handicap players can select a tee that will provide the same excitement and challenge, but at a length that suits their game.

A few select Kona Coast Vacation units include the Kings’ Club Gold Membership which offers a discount of up to 70% off regular rates! Green fees: $50 on Kings’ Course and $75 on Beach Course without any tee time restrictions. *prices subject to change & COVID-19 restrictions.

Mauna Lani North and South Courses

Mauna Lani is home to the notorious Francis H. I‘i Brown South Course. This world-famous course snakes through the unforgiving terrain of the Kaniku lava flow and is famed for its 15th hole, an epic over-the-bay monster that is also one of the most photographed golf holes in the world. Mauna Lani’s North Course is a unique golfing experience. Built on a lava flow and sprinkled with kiawe (mesquite) forests, the highlight of this course is its 17th hole, which is tucked into a natural lava rock amphitheater. On the northern boundary of the course lays a 230-acre archaeological park. Besides challenging roughs and sand traps, this course often has moving obstacles: herds of feral goats move from green to green throughout the day.
