Breakfast at the bright and airy Harry’s has been a Midtown tradition since 1948, drawing everyone from the large Hispanic families that fill up the massive tables in Harry’s semi-private dining room to former mayor Annise Parker herself. Of course, the diner always has a wait, but the lightning-quick waitresses turn tables with unparalleled speed without rushing a single patron out the door. You come for the scene, but stay for dishes such as the Larissa plate, named for owner Johnny Platsas’s hometown in Greece and featuring home-style fries topped with fried eggs, or the Churrasco platter—South American steak and eggs—which pays homage to Ecuador, the homeland of Johnny’s wife (and steadfast cashier) Patricia. At lunch, skip the steam table and dig into a burger instead.
