Great rate starting. My dog is now 4 years old and very healthy. Somehow my premiums increased from the original rate of $33.61 on 3/11/19 to the absolutely absurd $70.62 they are now charging me as of 3/11/22. Don’t worry, they totally let me know about the price increases by creating a document and stuffing it deep in the archives of my online account…you know, a very accessible place that most normal people check on a regular basis…oh wait, no, I never received an email or letter in the mail, and I never checked the documents in my profile, so I was never notified.

I’m no mathematician, but a 110% increase in only 3 years with NO claims that they had to pay me out for seems ridiculous. It’s a simple bait and switch…preying on peoples fears of the unknown.

Now, they will claim that rates are adjusted to reflect market price for vet services, inflation, etc, but nothing has gone up 110% in the pet world. Pretty sure my vets prices are somewhat similar to when I started going there.

This is a terrible business model. Provide affordable coverage for young dogs, jack the price up significantly, and make sure that by the time a dog is old and would need medical attention, the customer would have already canceled the policy because they could not afford it.

If you are thinking of getting this insurance, consider that I am paying $847 a year for the coverage (22-23). That is in addition to the $678 (21-22), $522 (20-21) and $403 (19-20) I’ve paid them for the past years. That’s $2,450 that I’ve given them to “protect” my perfectly healthy young dog. By the time I would need coverage, I would’ve already paid more in insurance than I would’ve paid out of pocket. Then again, if something unexpected happened to the dog, I would’ve needed the coverage. But like I said, that’s their business model…prey on your fear. I wish nothing good for these people who make the policies to screw over people who try to do the right thing for their pets. I hope they get theirs one day.

An update to answer the company response below:
No one likes premium increases, thank you for pointing that out. Please explain, on this public forum, why an insurance premium increase of 110% is appropriate within 3 years. No need to access my account to identify the “factors” that contributed to the increase. All I’ve done is pay you. No claims on my end that make my account a higher risk than anyone else. Please enlighten us.

And if your sticking point is you’ve sent an email with the increase information (maybe I missed it), you are missing the point. I don’t care about it not being communicated. I care about your ridiculous, unjustified price hikes.

Shame on you for your bullsh*t generic rhetoric that you would like to speak with me about the increase. We both know ANOTHER conversation about it will not change a single thing.
