Irving’s newest Indian restaurant offers large menu of popular staples and regional favorites

The owners of a new restaurant in Irving are pledging to deliver authentic regional flavors from India to North Texas.

Mythri’s Indian Cuisine celebrated its grand opening last month, and is now offering a range of dishes with their roots in both northern and southern India.

Signature items include a variety of samosas and a fried cauliflower dish known as Gobi Manchurian. And along with masala chicken lollipops, tandoori chicken, butter chicken and biryanis, the menu boasts some dishes that may be less familiar to Texas diners: The Ankapur Desi Kodi Kura is a chicken curry that comes from the Ankapur village, and royalla iguru is a spicy, thick curry made with prawns.

This is the second venture for Sudhakar Nimmagadda and his partners, who also own Aahar Indian Cuisine in Detroit.

When the group considered opening a second location, the Dallas-Fort Worth area stood out as the clear choice, said Neeraj Sripuram, who works with the group. The owners landed in Irving, thanks to its diversity and central location in North Texas.

“We knew that in such a cosmopolitan area, there would be a place for Mythri’s here,” Sripuram said.

While some business owners might shy away from opening a restaurant during the COVID-19 pandemic, Sripuram said, the owners learned lessons about the restaurant business that remain true — even now. Namely, good food and good service are paramount, he said.

“Most restaurant owners spend all of their time in the front, but we spend a lot of time in the back,” he said. “Our focus is on the food. We pride ourselves on consistency of flavor and quality.”

Mythri’s, which means friendship in Sanskrit, plans to open a banquet hall for events in February.

At 8350 N MacArthur Blvd., Suite 190, the restaurant will seat customers at a social distance and is also available for catering and through various delivery providers.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
