I’ve always enjoyed watching Paula Deen’s Cooking Shows so when Mom and I took a quick trip weekend trip, we had to go to Paula Deen’s restaurant location, The Lady and Sons, in the heart of Savannah, Georgia. Eating at The Lady and Sons is one of the top things to do in Savannah so naturally, we made a reservation and gravitated towards Paula Deen’s Fried Chicken.

Making Reservations at Lady and Sons

After going online and realizing we needed reservations, we quickly secured reservations and started browsing the menu and blog posts to see what we could expect and eat. The two things that we gathered was that we needed to try the fried chicken and buffet was the way to go to try all of the delicious southern home cooking.

Even though the Lady and Sons has three stories and can pack a ton of people in her restaurant, I recommend making reservations. Many of the locals I chatted with while exploring Savannah told me how much they loved Lady and Sons – so I knew this was going to be one of the restaurants we go to while on our short trip in Savannah.

Waiting Room with Paula Deen

Even if you have a reservation, you are ushered into a medium sized waiting room to wait for your table. You can choose to either sit in the waiting room or explore the gift shop – yes this restaurant has a gift shop. While we waited, I walked around the gift shop and adored all of the southern sayings and knick-knacks that would be perfect gifts for someone moving into their first home.

After waiting for thirty minutes, I noticed that everyone had come and gone from the waiting room and I asked the hostess when we would be seated – I was hungry Y’all! Well there was a technical error, and my 30-minute wait was all in vain, and we were quickly given a laminated paper and ushered to the third floor of the restaurant.

Handicapable Access in The Lady and Sons

Much of the third and first floor and handicapable. There is a small seated area on the third floor where someone would have to walk down 2-3 steps to get to that seating area, but we asked our hostess to not sit there since we knew we were going to the buffet. There is an elevator that connects all of the floors together.

Ordering from the Menu at Lady and Sons

We were handed large menus with a ton of mouth-watering food, but both mom and I decided that we were going to get the buffet. The fried chicken was one of the main reasons why we chose to eat the buffet, but Paula Deen’s world famous Ooey Gooey Buttercake is another reason why we opted for the buffet option.

As true southern ladies, we love iced tea and ordered a round of ice tea for the table. I was thoroughly impressed that the ice tea came with a large slice of lemon and the freshest mint I had ever seen. Take note all restaurants everywhere – this is how ice tea should be made in the south.

The Buffet at the Lady and Sons

The buffet at Paula Deen’s Lady and Sons was incredible and had just enough selections to make you want to eat everything. It costs $18 per adult and is actually a steal when you think about how much good southern food you could put down for $18.

After browsing the buffet, I grabbed two fried chickens (leg and breast), macaroni and cheese, sweet potato casserole, cornbread stuffing, and a bowl of collard greens for some color variety.

Everything was delicious and reminded me of food my mom makes, or food I would get at a restaurant in New Orleans. I really enjoyed the fried chicken, but with any buffet, I made sure to grab my food as soon as the pan was put down to ensure I had the freshest food possible.

I enjoyed myself, and everything on my plate, that I went back for seconds on the fried chicken and the macaroni – two of my all-time favorite dishes. There were some other options on the buffet including some beef, mashed potatoes, and some other things that I didn’t load onto my plate – including a small salad bar.

Desserts included at The Lady and Sons

The dessert offerings were Ooey Gooey Buttercake, Peach cobbler, or banana pudding. Mom got the Ooey Gooey Buttercake because anytime she would watch Paula Deen’s show Paula raved about her Ooey Gooey Buttercake. I opted for a more traditional banana pudding because it reminded me of my youth.

Dress Code at The Lady and Sons

Even though we had lunch on a Sunday, and many guests were dressed up for dining after church The Lady and Sons dress code is pretty relaxed. I feel like you can wear just about everything that you would wear being a tourist in the city. You are most likely going to eat at the buffet or a ton of food, so make sure you wear something comfortable so your belly can grow. Mom and I wore sundresses, but I’m sure a Plaid Shirt and Yoga Pants would pass during the fall and winter!
