Michigan disc golf course ranked 9th best in United States for 2022

SHELBY, MI – A Michigan disc golf course has been named one of the best in the world.

UDisc, the leading disc golf course directory and scorekeeping app, named Flip City Disc Golf Park in Shelby the 9th best disc golf course in its 2022 ranking of the top courses.

Courses are ranked based on in-app ratings from more than 1 million-disc golfers. There are more than 13,000 disc golf courses spread across 80 countries, about 500 of which are in Michigan.

Flip City is a 24-hole course built on 80 acres of farmland founded by Bill McKenzie, who has been playing disc golf for more than 40 years.

Most holes on the course feature both open areas and wooded sections in which players start in one landscape and end in the other. In other words, a tee pad in the open and a basket in a wooded area or vice versa.

McKenzie has said he wants the course to be challenging enough to entertain experienced players but still accessible to everyone.

“I’d say it’s for general play, not championship or pro level,” McKenzie told UDisc. “You bring your family, and you have a good time.”

As for the course’s signature hole? That’s No. 11, according to McKenzie. Players can watch their discs soar over a well-mowed field filled with large cairns.

Other disc courses in UDisc’s 2022 Top 10 include Blue Ribbon Pines in Minnesota, Caliber Disc Golf Course in Idaho, Eagles Crossing Disc Golf Course in Missouri and Brewster Ridge Disc Golf Course in Vermont.

No. 5 through No. 1 will be released next week, here.
