Morso’s Modern Family: Five Years Old, but Decades in the Making – The New York Times

When plans were announced last year for the construction of a new high-rise nearby, the owner and chef, Pino Luongo, made the dining room available to neighbors who wished to discuss their concerns. More than a year later, the sessions continue.

Some regulars say they see Morso almost as an extension of their homes. Especially Barbara Wrubel, who lives in the building above the restaurant. “There’s something so wonderful and reliable about it,” she said.

Ms. Wrubel had recently enjoyed a Ladies Night here with her friend Sheila. On Mondays, women-only tables receive a 50 percent discount on their food before 7:30 p.m.

Discounts aside, there is a superb Italian meal to be had.

After all, Mr. Luongo, 63, has drawn loyal crowds for more than two decades, dating to when he ran Le Madri in Chelsea and Coco Pazzo on the Upper East Side (both have since closed).
