Ohia Bar at Duke’s Beach House, Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii, United States – Bar Review | Condé Nast Traveler

Can you tell us a little bit about this place?
You’ll find Ohia Bar on the patio of Duke’s, a classic Hawaiian beachfront restaurant. The vibe is quintessentially Hawaiian: palapa umbrellas, tiki torches, palm trees, and a guy strumming Aloha ‘Oe on a ukulele. It can get a little crowded and noisy during Aloha Hour, from 3 to 5 p.m. daily, but you’ll barely be bothered after a Molokai Sunset—or two.
Cool. So who’s there?
An eclectic mix of tourists, including lots of American couples. This is a beach bar in Hawaii, after all.
Give us the deets on the drinks.
The menu is cocktail-heavy, the kind of stuff you’d want to drink at a place like this (fruity Daiquiris, fizzy and refreshing Mojitos). There’s a solid beer list of mainly local, seasonal brews, as well as an interesting range of bubbles: you can order anything from local sparkling rosé made on Maui ($12 a glass) to a bottle of Dom Perignon ($250 a bottle).
Worth ordering something to eat, too?
In addition to the Duke’s menu—you can order anything on it—Ohia’s menu is pretty extensive on its own. You can get everything from light, fresh pupus—Maui-grown tomatoes with feta cheese—to hearty entrees like Korean sticky ribs and a half-pound cheeseburger. The food’s not fancy, but it’s flavorsome and satisfying.
How’d you find the staff?
Warm, eager, and seemingly enjoying themselves despite the crowds.
Wrap it up: what are we coming here for?
This is a something-for-everyone beach bar, and a really tough spot not to enjoy.
