What are AP Courses?

AP Courses or Advanced Placement Courses are courses that offer rigorous college-level curricula and assessments to high school students with the opportunity to earn college credit. Pioneered by the Ford Foundation in the early twentieth century, AP courses were a response to growing concern over the gap in education standards between secondary and higher level learning.

Overseen by the College Board today, students who take AP classes in high school have the option to take AP exams and qualify for college credit based on their College Board AP scores. With over 30 AP Courses being offered by the College Board in subjects as wide-ranging as AP Physics, AP Calculus, and AP Spanish, AP courses offer the opportunity to explore interests and build credit toward an academic future.

Another founding goal of AP courses was to identify creative and imaginative teachers to help increase access to quality education opportunities, as well as to encourage high school seniors to pursue independent study and college-level work. As such, AP courses are also an important part of the ever-evolving education field.

For students who want to improve AP test scores, enrolling in online AP courses is a great place to start.
