Progressive Insurance Review: Pros & Cons (August 2022)

Progressive offers both small and large accident forgiveness. New policyholders automatically get small accident forgiveness, which keeps their rates the same if a claim doesn’t exceed $500.

Once you’ve had a Progressive policy for five years and you’ve remained claim- and violation-free for three years, you get large accident forgiveness. This benefit keeps your rates the same when your next insurance claim exceeds $500. Be aware that it only works once, and then you need to wait another three years to become eligible again.

Snapshot Program

If you’re looking for a plan tailored to your driving, you can try Progressive’s Snapshot® program. The insurer will track your driving habits through the Snapshot app or a plug-in device for a period of time after you sign up. Depending on how safe you are on the road, you may get a car insurance discount.

There is a potential downside though: You may see your rate increase if Progressive determines you’re a bad driver. This differs from other usage-based programs like State Farm’s Drive Safe & SaveTM, which doesn’t raise your rate no matter how poorly you drive.

According to Progressive insurance reviews, many drivers find affordable rates through the Snapshot program. It can be especially effective for people who don’t drive very much or who don’t regularly drive at night.

How Long Does a Progressive Claim Take?

According to the J.D. Power 2020 U.S. Auto Claims Satisfaction StudySM, across the industry, the average claim took about 10 days to resolve. Since Progressive fared below average in the 2021 study, customers may find claims take a bit longer than this estimate on average.

How To Cancel Progressive Car Insurance

Progressive allows customers to cancel at any time by phone, mail or email. You can cancel your coverage immediately or schedule an effective cancellation date in the future. If you already paid for the period, you’ll get a prorated refund for the canceled portion.
