Roy Rogers Fast-Food Chain to Open Cincinnati Location

Western-themed fast-food chain Roy Rogers, named for the Cincinnati-born actor and cowboy, plans to open a Queen City location this year.
This historic franchise, founded in 1968, is known for items like fried chicken, roast beef sandwiches and their iconic Double R Burger — a quarter-pounder topped with American cheese and ham on a Kaiser roll. It’s also bringing its famed “Fixin’s bar” to the local restaurant, allowing customers to top their burgers with their choice of condiments and veggies.

The new spot is set to open in Cleves in the winter of 2022. This opening is part of a 10-unit restaurant deal with local restaurant franchise group One Holland Corporation.
“Cleves is the perfect place for our first Roy Rogers location, as we already have a good relationship with the city and many fantastic employees,” One Holland CEO Gary Holland said in a release. “Residents have continued to share their excitement since our initial announcement, so we are working diligently to bring Roy’s famous burgers, beef and chicken to our community.”
The Cleves location is planned to be situated next to the Skyline Chili in front of Taylor High School and will feature an outdoor dining area plus a drive-through.
“We are encouraged by the enthusiasm of Cleves’ residents and the decades of success multi-unit operator Gary Holland brings to the table,” said co-president of Roy Rogers Franchise Company Jim Plamondon in a release. “This highly anticipated new location is a celebration of our historic restaurant as we reflect on over 50 years of bringing quality, variety and choice to our loyal customers. Be sure to stay tuned for details regarding the grand opening.”
New locations should be popping up all over the Cincinnati area, including spots in Hamilton, Butler and Clermont counties; Boone, Kenton and Campbell counties in Kentucky; and Dearborn County in Indiana.

This isn’t the first time Cincinnati has been home to a Roy Rogers chain.
Roney’s restaurant, now located in Milford, originally opened as a Roy Rogers in Union Township in 1969. After the Rogers chain dissolved locally, the restaurant changed its name but kept its classic menu items and iconic neon wagon sign. Roney’s closed in 2012 but reopened in 2015 at its current location, where you can still grab a Lucky R Burger (a version of the Double R) and add your own lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion and condiments at the toppings bar.
