Public Golf Courses In St. Petersburg, FL

Mangrove Bay Golf Course-st. petersburg floridaMangrove Bay Golf Course

Mangrove Bay Golf Course – Municipal Public Course

This is an 18-hole Par 72 Championship course built in 1977 and designed by Bill Amick with a slope rating of 120 and a course rating of 71.5.

This course finds itself in the ‘top municipal courses list’ pretty regularly and is a well-maintained course for a municipal one, and sits literally in the midst of a marshy mangrove from which it has derived its name.

The one attribute of this course is that no houses are lining the fairways which is an attribute mostly found in semi-private or private courses.

The course is known to be challenging yet easy too. It has wide fairways and big greens that roll true.  Measuring roughly 6700 yards from the back tees this is not a lengthy course either.

Some of the par-5s are short and can be reached in 2 strokes from the tees. Water comes into play on 7 of the 18 holes but poses a challenge only on 4.

The course also has good practice facilities with a driving range, large chipping, and pitching area as well as a putting green.

PGA instructors are available for golf lessons. A pro golf shop, as well as a snack bar, is also at hand.

Green fees are $27 for 18 holes for morning tee times that reduce to $17 for the twilight sessions.

Being a municipal course, locals are eligible for discount cards.

Cypress Links Golf Course – Municipal Par-3 Course

This is the par-3 sister course of Mangrove Bay and is situated at the entrance to the bigger course.

The second of the 3 municipal courses in St. Pete, this course is a 9-hole par-27 that measures only 1300 yards in length with the largest hole measuring only 187 yards, increasing your chances of hole-in-ones.

This is perfect for someone who is short of time and is looking for a quick round, as well as for seniors and juniors who are learning the chops of the game.

As this course is part of the Mangrove Bay Course, the characteristics of the bigger course pretty much carry into this one too.

Being a small course, the green fees here are quite affordable at $12 for 9 holes and $6 for replay.

Discount cards are available for locals.

Twin Brooks Golf Course – Par-3 Municipal

This is the third municipal course in St. Petersburg. This is not part of the above 2 courses and is a standalone par-3 course.

This is an older course built in 1957, a 9-hole par-27 that measures only 1067 yards.

An executive-style course for those who want to play a round in an hour or two max.

The facility, although small, has an 18-station driving range and 2 putting greens.

PGA instructor golf lessons are available as well a pro shop and snack bar are accessible in the facility.

Being a small course, the green fees here are affordable too, just like Cypress Links, at $12 per round and $6 for replay.

The discounts cards can be used in all the 3 muni courses.

Vinoy Golf Course - st. petersburg floridaVinoy Golf Course

Vinoy Golf Course – Renaissance Vinoy Resort – Private

This 18-hole par-71 hotel/resort golf course was built in 1925 and was originally designed by Donald Ross. The course located on Snell Isle underwent a renovation by the famed Ron Garl and reopened in 1992.

The course sits in a beautiful setting drenched in the native Florida fauna and flora ambiance –

though, there are palm trees in this course with over a dozen varieties brought in from various parts of the world, totaling 900 in number.

The facility is a Certified Audobon Cooperative Sanctuary. Meaning, the facility has a bewildering array of wildlife. This, along with the natural beauty and the manicured setting makes it a truly exhilarating course to play.

Measuring 6626 yards from the tips, this course is not particularly a lengthy one – that drains your energy by the time you step onto the 18th tee.

The fairways are mostly generous. However, with plenty of water and 63 strategically placed bunkers, and with the constant gust from the bay, this can be a challenging course.

Driving range with pitching and chipping area and practice putting greens are available at the facility as well as a golf pro shop.

Golf lessons are available from PGA professionals.

The green fees are $86 for 18 holes for out-of-season play and $162 for in-season with cart. A 9-hole option is also available. Golf membership is available for non-guests of the resort.

Isla Del Sol Golf Yacht & Country Club – Community

Minutes away from the St. Petersburg beaches and located on an island, Golf at Isla Del Sol is an 18-hole par-71 community course opened in 1977 and designed by Mark Mahannah.

If you are a fan of island golf, then this might be a course for you. However, note that the fairways are lined by homes and condos and you may not be able to see much water though.

You get more of a city vibe playing this course as opposed to the other courses in this area.

Measuring a tad under 6400 yards, this is not a lengthy course by today’s standards, but would not beat you up and would be ideal for seniors and beginners.

Professional staff is available for golf lessons, and yearly golf membership plans are also available.
