THIS RESTAURANT HAS CHANGED LOCATIONS Acacia Restaurant Restaurant Review:

Climb the steep steps of this former church in Carytown, Richmond’s mecca of independent stores and restaurants, and you’ll be ushered into what was the sanctuary. There chef-owner Dale Reitzer, supported by his partner-wife, Aline, who directs the cozy dining room, prepares dishes from his findings at Central Virginia’s farmers markets and docks, turning the highest quality ingredients into consistently innovative dishes. Begin with his signature salad of white anchovies with grilled radicchio, Gorgonzola, pine nuts and a creamy garlic sauce. Other starters include red pepper bisque with crème fraîche, salmon tartare with avocado mayonnaise, Chincoteague oysters with jalapeño salsa, and tuna seared rare with orange, avocado, sunflower seeds and a citrus vinaigrette. Order soft shell crabs whenever you can—Reitzer personally drives to his favorite waterman’s stand to select them. Other entrées with a Chesapeake Bay accent include sautéed rockfish on Jerusalem artichokes and jumbo lump crab cakes with creamy grits and Surry sausage. Top this off with Reitzer’s version of a traditional French dessert, clafouti, here a goat cheese pound cake filled with fresh berries topped with sugar brulée and a scoop of sorbet.
