THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Dakota Restaurant Review:

Hollywood hipsters flock to this postmodern steakhouse from hot Southland restaurateurs Tim and Liza Goodell. Designer Dodd Mitchell has transformed a cavernous corner off the lobby of the historic Hollywood Roosevelt hotel into a sultry sanctuary decorated in a palette of chocolate browns, with tabletops clad in form-fitting leather and comfy banquettes in suede. While Dakota offers breakfast, lunch and Sunday brunch options befitting a fine hotel dining room, dinner is the main show, starring Angus Prime steaks and other primo meats and poultry—plus fresh seafood—served à la carte with a choice of house-made sauces. Start with the classic Caesar salad or an appealing variation on a chophouse classic—a wedge of butter lettuce (not iceberg) served in a Point Reyes blue cheese dressing with apple wood-smoked bacon. Or try the daily seared Hudson Valley foie gras presentation, with seasonal accompaniments like sautéed apple slices. We like the bone-in 14-ounce New York steak and the fork-tender braised boneless short ribs, both intensely beefy. Among the sides, don’t miss decadent shoestring fries tossed with Parmesan and black truffle; immense, lightly battered onion rings; or creamy spinach. Desserts like a coconut panna cotta and an elegant take on a pineapple upside-down cake merit a final splurge. For a more clubby experience, the entire menu is offered on a terrace (“Dakota Bridge”) that overlooks the hotel’s poolside Tropicana Bar, a scene as hot as the kitchen’s broilers.
