The Coca-Cola Company – Wiki

Overview

The Coca-Cola Company was founded in 1886 and is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. The company was incorporated in the State of Delaware in September 1919. The Coca-Cola company is one of the largest beverage companies in the world and owns or licenses and markets more than 500 non-alcoholic beverage brands. The beverages are mostly sparkling beverages, but also include waters, enhanced waters, juices, juice drinks, ready-to-drink teas and coffees, and energy and sports drinks. This includes four of the world’s top five sparkling beverage brands: Coca-Cola, Diet Coke, Fanta, and Sprite.

In the fiscal year for 2020, Coca-Cola reported a consolidated net operating revenue of $33 billion for the full year. The bulk of that revenue is derived from its two key businesses: its concentrate business and its finished products business.

Concentrate business

Through The Coca-Cola Company’s concentrate business, the company manufactures and sells syrups to their authorized bottlers, who add water and carbonation to make and sell the finished products. The company has supported consolidation of these bottlers, as they caused several challenges for the company. This was done through the Bottling Investments Group, which identifies struggling franchises and provides them with financial and institutional support. Bottling Investments Group operates in parts of Africa, South Asia, and Southeast Asia, and completed re-franchising in Canada, the United States, Guatemala, Uruguay, and China.

Finished product business

Alongside the company’s concentrate business, it manages several bottling operations and collects revenues on finished products. These products fall under the finished product operations, which is made up of both company-owned or controlled operations in sales and distribution, including the sale of beverages to retailers, distributors, or wholesalers.

Coca-Cola

Coca-Cola, or Coke, is a carbonated soft drink manufactured by The Coca-Cola Company. Originally marketed as a temperance drink and intended as a patent medicine, it was invented in the late 19th century by John Stith Pemberton and was bought out by businessman Asa Griggs Candler, whose marketing tactics led Coca-Cola to its dominance of the world soft-drink market throughout the 20th century.

The drink’s name refers to two of its original ingredients: coca leaves, and kola nuts (a source of caffeine). The current formula of Coca-Cola remains a trade secret; however, a variety of reported recipes and experimental recreations have been published. The drink has inspired imitators and has created a whole classification of soft drink: colas.
