The Mercantile restaurant, with its rooftop deck, to open in downtown Worcester March 28

The long-awaited opening of The Mercantile rooftop deck bar and restaurant finally seems to be right around the corner.

At a Worcester License Commission meeting, attorney Stephanie Boudreau said the restaurant is scheduled to open March 28.

Boudreau was in front of the commission to request a change of manager and a name change for the restaurant, which was listed in the meeting minutes as “TB Restaurant Worcester LLC” at 2 Mercantile Street.

The commission approved changing the name to The Mercantile.

The Broadway Hospitality Group, which is behind Tavern in the Square, The Broadway in South Boston, and Tavitas and Tavern Allston, is also behind the 500-seat restaurant. It will carry the theme of their other properties.

The group first announced the 13,000-square-foot restaurant in December 2019.

At that time they the said the restaurant would serve mostly American food, but eclectic, with an open kitchen based around a thin-crust pizza.

In 2019, officials also announced that a Ruth’s Chris Steak House would open inside the center that will house the Mercantile. The steak house, which will occupy 8,200 square feet, will have 270 seats indoors and an additional 70 seats outdoors.
