Training Information | Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

Please read prior to completing these online training modules:

  • Trainings must be completed on a computer or laptop. They are not formatted to be mobile-friendly so they will not function fully on a cell phone or tablet device.
  • If you use Internet Explorer turn off Compatibility View.
  • Be patient as some videos may take time to load, depending on your internet speed.
  • Clock hours cannot be earned while in ratio with children.
  • Online modules cannot be used for group training.
  • Each completed module can only be counted once in a calendar year.
  • CERTIFICATES: Certificates may be printed at the end of the training or you may take a screenshot if you wish to have a copy for your personal records. The Section for PD and Outreach no longer emails a copy of the certificate since they are no longer accepted to verify training.
  • All child care providers and their staff are required to obtain a MOPD ID. You may look up or obtain your MOPD ID at openinitiative.org.
  • If you provide your MOPD ID, clock hours will be reported to OPEN for viewing in your online clock hour record on the Toolbox.
  • Your name and MOPD ID number must match or the record will not be imported.

  • Records are sent to OPEN weekly so you should see the record on the training report by the end of the week following the completion of a training. Do not send certificates to OPEN for DESE online training modules.
  • If you need assistance with your MOPD ID or setting up your individual or program training report in the Toolbox, please contact OPEN Initiative at openinitiative@missouri.edu.
  • Questions about the online modules should be sent to CCTraining@dese.mo.gov.
  • If you have difficulty with an online training send a full screenshot of the issue to CCTraining@dese.mo.gov. Use the “print screen” button on your keyboard and paste the screenshot into the body of the email.
  • Trainings must be completed one at a time. If an individual completes multiple trainings at a time, credit will be denied when the information is reported to OPEN.

This training was developed in partnership between DHSS and the Department of Mental Health. This training will look at factors that contribute to an increase in stress for child care providers, discuss basic behavior management techniques, look at how to recognize escalating behaviors and how to de-escalate those situations, consider how to react in crisis situations, learn about potential consequences and the legal impacts when a child is harmed, and ultimately what you can do in your program to minimize the contributing factors so caregivers can successfully complete each day while keeping children safe.

Some of the pieces include supporting their brain development, understanding their temperament, assisting them to form attachment, understanding the social and emotional developmental milestones, and helping them build their emotion regulation skills.
