THE HISTORY OF MASONS

The Masons building started life in 1935 when it was built by the British Army as part of Gillman Barracks (named after General Sir Webb Gillman, first stationed here in 1927).

After the war, the British Army remained here until 1971 when the site was sold to the Singapore Government for the princely sum of $1, who then used it for the Singapore Armed Forces until 1996 when it was renamed Gillman Village and leased to the private sector for commercial use.

In 2010, Gillman Barracks revived its original name. The derelict building was then taken over by Masons, owned by the Verve Restaurant Group and work began to restore the building to its original splendour.

Masons was designed by award-winning Singaporean architects FARM, who in a small tribute to the building’s heroic past tenants, designed a bar front that depicts the English Rose, as used on The Loyal Regiment’s military crest. Although long passed, we would like to think that old General Gillman would approve.

Masons now provides the perfect place to enjoy a delicious meal and refreshments in its tranquil setting. Well-known for our range of freshly made thin crust pizzas and pasta dishes using only the finest ingredients, you will also find a delicious mix of Asian and Western favourites to tempt your tastebuds.
