We’ve found the best steak houses in Greater Cleveland, according to Yelp
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Whether you prefer fine dining or family-style casual, for many of us, a special night out includes a meal at a steakhouse.
Surprisingly, the steakhouse didn’t originate in Texas, but in post-Civil War era New York City, when the Old Homestead Steakhouse opened in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District at West 14th and 9th Ave.
This new form of restaurant was a cross between the dark and dank “chophouses,” which sprung up so workers could grab a quick hot meal, and the beefsteak banquets, held to celebrate everything from business success to political wins. Traditionally, both were open only to men.
But the growing upper class in New York could afford high-quality cuts of steak and the Old Homestead set itself apart by serving steaks and welcoming women and families. Before long, American steakhouse became a place to socialize and celebrate with family and friends.
Americans still have a love affair with steak. According to a recent study by the Harvard Medical School, the average American eats an average of 55-pounds of red meat per year.
With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, you may be looking to wow your sweetheart with a perfectly cooked steak. But where can you be assured to find a great one?
We partnered with our friends at Yelp Cleveland to find where their reviewers said offered the best steak dinner in Northeast Ohio.
Methodology:
This is an all-time list of the top restaurants serving steaks in the Greater Cleveland area according to Yelp Cleveland. Yelp Cleveland identified those businesses in categories with a large concentration of reviews mentioning “steak,” then ranked those spots using a number of factors, including the total volume and ratings of reviews mentioning “steak.” This list looked at businesses in the following counties: Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage and Summit. We worked directly with Yelp Cleveland on this list to reflect accurate data.
