Here’s a closer look at some of the greatest golf courses in St Augustine. 

Recently voted St. Augustine’s best, the 18 championship holes at St. Johns are among the most impeccably kept in the state. The individual holes here afford a legendarily perfect mix of tempting challenges and opportunities to save strokes. But don’t think that means your walk in the park will BE a walk in the park. There are plenty of bunkers and hazards here that can give even seasoned players enough reason to stay on their toes.    

4900 Cypress Links Blvd, Elkton, FL 32033

This family-owned, 72-par gem is located on some of the loveliest landscape you’ll ever see with a club in your hand. Manicured lawns, gently rolling greens and fairways, and more than a dozen large lakes will provide a feast for the senses as you navigate the course. The front nine here eases you into the round, but the back nine offers a tough-but-fair range of adventurous holes to keep things interesting. The staff here is also famously very welcoming.

Located within World Golf Village (which is in and of itself a must-stop for any golf enthusiast), the King and the Bear golf course is the only one in the world to have been designed collaboratively by two of the best-known names who have ever played the game: Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer. That alone would make this course worth a visit. The fact that it’s also award-winning and championship-grade only adds to the appeal. Expect lots of hole variety, as well as stunning views along the way.

Royal St. Augustine is a bit more of a challenge than some of the breezy, wide-open courses mentioned previously. This is due to its location, tucked away in a beautiful, largely residential area not far from downtown. That’s not to say it isn’t worth visiting — it very much is. But you’ll definitely want to bring your A-game. Slim fairways with tight tolerances will reward straight hitters with a memorable experience, but offer higher handicappers an uphill climb.

Cimarrone is another challenging course best-suited for experienced golfers. It’s famously tough-but-fair holes (full of “watch out” water hazards and sand traps) soften the blow by affording golfers with decidedly picturesque surroundings, winding their way through old-growth trees and marshlands. Once you’ve sunk the 18th, relax and grab some refreshments after your game at the on-site clubhouse, offering a full menu and bar service.

Formerly known as Champions Club, Julington Creek is a gorgeous 18-hole championship-level course that’s notable for its wide variety of hole types. The surprises and unique challenges on every fairway offer veterans lots of reasons to keep their eyes on the ball, while still remaining approachable enough for novice-level duffers looking for an enjoyable day on the links. Don’t forget to visit the pro shop, where you’ll find a huge selection of clothing and accessories.
