GTO, Eikichi Onizuka. A beloved character. He lives his own way without caring about much and having funs with his loved ones. He is unique and a top-notch character. In the main series, we meet several people from this manga and this is how Ryuuji and Eikichi became friends and some adventures of them.
I think it would be the most enjoyable to read this after reading the main manga but you can even read it before since it is a prequel for it. What happens is that Ryuuji starts going to his new high school and there he is a junior. As he was skipping
the first day he saw Onizuka just going demon mode on some other gang and he immediately caught his attention. At school he tries to fight him several times, Onizuka and his friends/gang find a motorbike so they take it and try to fix it. Ryuuji soon comes and helps them. Sakura also becomes a part of their gang and she is just an airhead girl that shows her panties quite often and teases the guys for looking etc. Ryuuji and Onizuka still aren't friendly but he just comes along to see the bike when another gang that had their eyes on that bike goes to get it and it isn't there. Some fights come soon enough and I think this is plenty of the plot, later we get to know characters like Natsuki, more stuff about motorbikes, more gangs, more fights, more friendship, and lots of fun.
The cast is amazing, there are spurts of comedy everywhere and this is quite literally what many delinquent mangas have dreamed of becoming. It is a good story with good characters and it sets some character development on most. It simply is a very enjoyable manga to read. The 10 chapter/1 volume passed by really fast and it was a great time. 8/10 for the story.
The art is not as good as in the later entries or manga at the time, it has plenty of good scenes and drawings but plenty are rather simple. I really liked to see Onizuka and Ryuuji as high schoolers and it overall looked good so I am giving the art an 8.
The characters are a 9. If you read this before GTO you might be confused or you might just not like how simple some seem to be but remember this is just a back story. In the main series, these characters are a lot more complex and even if you only read this one volume of their past, they have plenty of personality traits one can find and they are very fun. We have the gang, the MCs, and some more people like other gangs and their members, Natsuki, her bf, teachers, etc. I would call some of them outstanding and the rest are just supporting their triumph. I am very pleased with characters like Onizuka, Ryuuji, and Sakura and I really like their trio.
Overall, this was very enjoyable and a nice story to know. We get to know more about their past and I think this is a great addition to the series. They are brilliant just like in the main manga and just lots of fun. GTO is just a manga that makes you feel good, you laugh, you learn, you think and love. Nothing missing.
