Here’s our list of the best golf courses in the East Bay.

  1. Blackhawk Country Club

Located on the foothills of Mt. Diablo on what was formerly the Blackhawk Ranch, Blackhawk Country Club offers a complete lifestyle. This exclusive golf community features impeccable landscaping and luxurious homes surrounded by gorgeous views of mountains and open space.

There are two 18-hole championship golf courses and two clubhouses – the Lakeside and the Falls. The Lakeside Course was originally completed in 1981, but was fully redesigned and renovated in 2001 by the renowned firm of Graves and Pascusso. This Blackhawk golf course was rated one of the most difficult courses in Northern California by the NCGA, and boasts a dramatic 18th green – a 10,000 square-foot island in the middle of a 4-acre lake.

The Falls Course was designed by Ted Robinson and was completed in 1986. Featuring five lakes and a breathtaking waterfall at the 11th green, it boasts some of the most spectacular views in all of the East Bay.

In addition to the prestigious golf courses, other amenities include a Tennis Villa and a Sports Complex with additional tennis courts, a swimming pool with 10 competition lanes, a fitness center, and more.

Blackhawk Country Club has been recognized as a Distinguished Club. Membership is by invitation only and is strictly limited.

  2. Crow Canyon Country Club

This private country club is perfect for the family. In addition to the 18-hole, Ted Robinson-designed championship course, it also features 13 lighted tennis courts, a 6-lane Junior Olympic-size pool, a fitness center, and casual and fine dining rooms at the gorgeous clubhouse. Kids will not feel left out of the fun with the club’s Junior Golf Program, summer camps, and family-oriented events throughout the year.

  3. Canyon Lakes Golf Course & Brewery

This picturesque facility features a daily fee public golf course with impeccably-maintained greens and fairways. Completed in 1987 and designed by Ted Robinson, the golf course is quite challenging and requires precise shot-making – something serious golfers look forward to on every visit. Monthly club membership is also offered.

After a full day at the greens, you can unwind at the cozy Canyon Lakes Brewery. Enjoy a pint or two of limited release craft beers from the brewery’s ten-barrel brewing system, along with a great meal using farm-fresh ingredients.

  4. The Bridges Golf Club

This semi-private golf club boasts one of Northern California’s highest-rated courses, set against the majestic Mount Diablo. The 18-hole championship golf course was completed in 1999, with extensive bunker renovation done in 2013 by Bay Area golf architect Jay Blasi. The renovations made the course more playable for golfers of all skill levels and allowed for better maintenance.

With its stunning beauty, The Bridges is also a popular events and wedding venue. The Mediterranean villa-styled clubhouse is the perfect setting for a romantic ceremony and reception. In addition to the grand Garden Pavilion, which can seat up to 300 guests, the clubhouse also features a bar and a Golfer’s Patio, where you can enjoy views of the lush course while sipping on a cocktail.

  5. San Ramon Golf Club

Winding through TriValley neighborhoods just off I-680, San Ramon Golf Club is a highly popular facility with the most affordable rates in the area. The well-maintained greens are highly playable for golfers of all skill levels, and can be walked in under four and a half hours. Enjoy the finest conditions found at the best resorts in the country but at a fraction of the cost. The club’s practice facility is also perfect for players who want to hone their skills.

In addition, the grounds feature a beautiful wedding venue, featuring a white gazebo beside a lake and a waterfall. A grand banquet room with a built-in bar is perfect for receptions.

  6. Diablo Country Club

Rich in history, Diablo Country Club first opened its doors in 1914 and became the first family-oriented golf and country club in California. This prestigious facility is located at the foot of Mt. Diablo, on what was once a country estate for California’s railroad and gold mining moguls. To this day, Diablo Country Club has maintained many of its original structures, including the century-old clubhouse, the Carriage Lounge, which first served refreshments to guests in 1881, and the Red Horse Tavern, established in 1914.

The Par 72, 18-hole championship course completed in 1914 was designed by iconic golf architects, Willie Watson and Jack Neville. Acknowledged as one of the most desirable courses to play in the SF Bay Area, Diablo Golf Course features small greens and fairways lined by centuries-old oak trees. The course started renovations in 2019 to incorporate modern elements.
