The pretty-as-a-chocolate-box, greenery-laden brick courtyard is Amelie’s calling card; and it’s the place where Beyoncé & Jay-Z dined quite publicly days after the scandalous Solange elevator, uhm, incident. Expect cafe standards with something for everyone. Crab cakes, goat cheese and beet salad, local fave cochon de lait pork sandwich, and grilled catfish with a kick stand out. The relaxing spot calls loudly for a lemonade or mint julep and slice of lemon doberge cake. (Fair warning: Call ahead, it’s frequently closed for weddings.). Reserve in advance for Sunday brunch. We quite like offshoot Petite Amelie ★ (900 Royal St.), a few doors down, for quick and tasty prepared takeaway meals, soups, salads, cheeses, pastries, and such via counter-service; it’s open Wednesday to Sunday 8am to 8pm.
