Addiction Nursing Care

Through two WVU School of Nursing continuing professional development courses, nurses and other healthcare providers in the state can better understand the needs of patients with substance use disorder (SUD) and how to best treat them.

Addiction Nursing Care features two courses — Office-Based Medication Assisted Treatment (OBMAT) and Nursing Competencies in Addiction Care.

Advanced Spiritual Care

The Advanced Spiritual Care Course is designed to provide nurses with advanced knowledge and skill when providing spiritual care to their patients. This is a 4 week all online course and has been approved for 20 hours of continuing nursing professional development.

ELNEC (End of Life Nursing Education Consortium) Core Course

The End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC) project is a national and international education initiative to improve palliative care, in collaboration with City of Hope in Duarte, California, and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) in Washington, D.C.

The project provides training in palliative care with essential information to nursing students and practicing nurses, including undergraduate and graduate nursing faculty, continuing education providers, staff development educators, specialty nurses in pediatrics, oncology, critical care, geriatrics, and advanced practice nurses. ELNEC also welcomes other health care professionals.

Faith Community Nursing

The West Virginia University School of Nursing offers a Faith Community Nursing course for those individuals interested in helping to address the unique needs of faith-based organizations. The professional practice of faith community nursing focuses on the intentional care of the spirit as part of the process of promoting holistic health and preventing or minimizing illness in a faith community.

Faith Community Nursing Update Course

The West Virginia University School of Nursing offers a Faith Community Nursing Update course for individuals who have previously taken the full Foundations of Faith Community nursing course. This course is designed to provide nurses who have taken the full course in the past, with access to the new evidence-based curriculum.

Transitional Care Training for the Faith Community Nurse

The Transitional Care course is designed to provide the faith community nurse with background knowledge on the needs of community members who are in the process of transitioning in care. This might include from the hospital to home, from the hospital to the nursing home, from the hospital to home with hospice and many other transitional times. The course uses the national Transitional Care Training Program through the Westberg Institute.
