For the last few Anniversaries I’ve celebrated with Brian, we have gone to our favorite local eatery for brunch. We always order a little of everything off the menu so we can have a bite or two of all the breakfast food we love. A Brunch Charcuterie Board is the same concept. An array of the best Brunch items in one beautiful spot. Pour a cup of coffee, and a mimosa if you like, and savor this brunch board!

There are many options for your base. I have a collection of cutting boards I use, but I’ve found this one is a great size. To start building my board I begin with the main ingredient. For this board, I started with the heart shaped waffles ( see here for a similar waffle maker). Waffles (or pancakes) can be paired with many toppings, and for this board I wanted to offer several spreads. I added peanut butter and Nutella in individual bowls , which also provide a decorative element. Syrup can be poured into a small pitcher in the center with other ingredients surrounding it. All of the toppings should be ready to eat. Slice fruit so it can be easily served.

Brunch is not complete without crispy bacon and sausage in my home. Add your preferred savory, protein options to balance your sweets. For the final step, add a variety of fresh fruit which also provide color and texture to the board. With a little time and the right ingredients, you can create a masterpiece to serve for your family or friends.

Tips for Creating a Brunch Board

  1. If you are pressed for time, make your waffles and protein the day before. This allows you to pop them in the oven to crisp right before serving.
  2. You could switch out the heart shaped waffles and make protein pancakes, donuts, blueberry muffins, french toast, chocolate chip muffins, or any of your favorite pastries.
  3. Mix up protein options, such as hard boiled eggs, salami, or ham. Another option is to leave meat off of your board and create a vegetarian board.
  4. Pull together what you have in your kitchen. You probably have most ingredients on hand to make a wonderful charcuterie board. I truly love the versatility that a charcuterie board provides!
  5. If you’re feeling intimidated or haven’t built a charcuterie board before, I recommend starting with 9 Must Haves  for a Festive Charcuterie Board post. It is a great place to start with lots of tips and step-by-step instructions.
