Our Story

It all started with a passion for public golf. Oliver and Annette Hoag owned a farm in Comstock Park and had six children, all boys. Oliver loved to golf and had been a member of private clubs his entire life. He recognized in 1960 that there was a need for more public golf courses and built Scott Lake Country Club. When the first golfer teed off in 1962 it was exciting for the Hoag family. In 1975 two of the sons, bought the golf course and began their adventure as golf course owners. It is their dream to improve on the plans that their parents had developed. Hospitality is always at the forefront of their plans. “We want a friendly place, one in which our customers would feel welcome.” As more golfers played, the need to expand became evident. In 1998 we built our third nine, followed by the building of a practice center and then a six-hole short course. With that expansion, we changed our name from Scott Lake Country Club to Scott Lake Golf & Practice Center to better define who we are, a place for golf enthusiasts of all skill levels to be welcome. With three nine-hole layouts and a six-hole short course plus a quality practice facility, our customers have lots of choices to fill their golf needs. We want our customers to have a better golfing experience. Our staff continues to work toward enhancing that experience. For many of our customers, it is a warm welcome at the front counter or a friendly exchange with our Players Assistant at the first tee. For others, it is a hello and a smile at the beverage counter. Our customers have told us they enjoy the feeling of uniqueness, of being up north but only being a few miles from home. Our fans have posted many times about our staff and their friendliness, that they feel welcome whenever they show up to play golf at Scott Lake. We hope to see and greet you soon.
