Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort

Robert Trent Jones Course

Named South Carolina’s Golf Course of the Year, the Robert Trent Jones Oceanfront Course is widely renowned for its open, inviting layout and spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean. George Fazio Course

Hilton Head Island’s only par-70 public golf course, the George Fazio course was just named the 2014 South Carolina Golf Course of the Year by the SC Golf Course Owners Association. The layout offers an exhilarating experience and is revered as the island’s truest championship challenge. For beginners and advanced players, the Fazio course offers an exceptional golf experience. One of the youngest golf courses to be featured on Golf Digest’s list of America’s 100 Best, the par-70 layout continues to offer stimulating challenges. With only two par 5s, the heart of the course lies in a series of long par 4s, beginning with the 432-yard first hole and ending with the 462-yard 18th. The tree-lined fairways roll gently on the front nine, while the back nine offers tighter shots that require strategic positioning off the tee. With relatively small greens and undulating surfaces, the Fazio course challenges and delights golfers. Golfers especially enjoy the challenge of the fabulous finishing four holes, three well-bunkered par 4s and the great par-3 17th over water with out-of-bounds creeping in from the left. With new state-of-the-art Diamond Zoysia greens, the Fazio Course delivers a peak golf experience.

Arthur Hills Course

Arthur Hills took full advantage of the Low country’s dramatic coastal beauty when he designed this award-winning course at Palmetto Dunes. Tucked within the serene enclave of Leamington, this shot-maker’s favorite offers continuous lines of dunes, a rolling layout, numerous water hazards and thick stands of palmettos. This course emphasizes accuracy and precision over distance, providing formidable challenges at every turn. The picture-perfect setting of this mature course stands apart as a time-honored favorite with golfers and attracts dozens of species of birds as well as alligators and deer. In addition, the course is home to one of the Low country’s most historic lighthouses, the Hilton Head Range Light Station, which guided ships into Port Royal Sound beginning in the late 1800’s. The Hills course offers off-balance lies and ocean breezes as well as an extensive network of lagoons winding through 10 different holes. Heron Point by Pete Dye

Named South Carolina’s 2015 Golf Course of the Year, Heron Point is poised for even more acclaim. The splendid 18, along with Harbour Town Golf Links, gives The Sea Pines Resort not one but two Dye masterpieces. Experience the Plantation Golf Club, named 2015 Clubhouse of the Year by Golf Inc., when you play Heron Point by Pete Dye.

The maestro himself supervised Heron Point’s subtle course modifications in 2014 with the objective of making the course more player friendly. Dye’s team softened the green surrounds and contours, enlarged several putting surfaces, and added ornamental landscape beds throughout the Lowcountry layout. The greens were transitioned to Tif-Eagle Bermuda, the same strand used on famed Harbour Town Golf Links.

 

Atlantic Dunes by Davis Love III

The layout is a complete reconstruction and recreation of the resort’s historic Ocean Course, the first built on Hilton Head. Love and lead architect Scot Sherman have fashioned entirely rebuilt holes to accommodate modern shot values and frame scenic corridors. Atlantic Dunes features a pronounced seaside ambience and Lowcountry feel accented by coquina shells and seaside grasses. The project’s goal was to incorporate elements of the surrounding beachfront along with the area’s bounty of native pines and oaks lining the fairways.

 

 

 

 

Hilton Head National Golf Club

Hilton Head National, located just one mile from the bridges to Hilton Head Island, in Bluffton, South Carolina and just 25 minutes from Savannah, Georgia, had a banner year for courses located in Beaufort County’s South Carolina Low Country. Hall of Famer, Gary Player and former PGA Tour Design Consultant and National Architectural Award Winner, Bobby Weed each used their distinctive design philosophies to create a unique 18 holes that will make you use every club in your bag. Hilton Head National is truly a player-friendly course that allows the weekend golfer to enjoy themselves but will also test the more skilled player if they wish to test the Black Tees.

 

 

Heritage Golf Collection

Barony Golf Course

The Barony course was designed by George Cobb in the early 1960’s, and was one of the first courses on the Island. From the tee box many of the holes appear to be relatively open, but as you approach the Bermuda greens, the real challenge becomes clear. The greens are generous and protected by thick rough and unforgiving bunkers, encouraging the golfer to have a good touch with mid to short-range iron shots. This is a course where accuracy, not length, is paramount.

 

 

 

Robber’s Row Golf Course

Robber’s Row was designed by noted architects George Cobb and Willard Byrd in the early 1970’s and was redesigned in 1994 by world famous architect Pete Dye. The course is located on the scenic marsh side of the Port Royal Plantation and cuts through beautiful stands of magnolia and live oaks. This course sets atop former civil war grounds and features historical markers throughout the course describing events which took place on the Island. Although tee-shots have generous fairways to land in, approach shots require accuracy to the well-protected greens. Robber’s Row is a course rich in history and a challenge to any golfer.

 

 

Oyster Reef Golf Club

The Oyster Reef Golf Club opened in 1982 and was immediately recognized as one of the “Top 25
new courses in America” by Golf World Magazine. This Rees Jones design has been voted one of the “Top 20 Courses in the Carolinas” and enjoys a reputation as a favorite among Hilton Head Island golfers. Carved out of 190 acres of breathtaking low country terrain, Oyster Reef Golf Club’s spectacular
18-hole championship layout winds the golfer around lagoons, lush vegetation, and scenic views of the inlet to Port Royal Sound , including the signature Par 3, # 6, which is one of the most recognized and photographed golf holes on Hilton Head Island looking out over the Port Royal Sound.

 

 

Shipyard Golf Club

Nestled within Hilton Head’s natural setting of majestic Carolina pine trees, flowering magnolias and moss draped oaks, Shipyard Golf Club’s 27-holes offer some of the most spectacular views imaginable. The course designers, George W. Cobb and Willard C. Byrd, inter-connected two of the three nine hole courses for a unique and challenging 18-hole round. The original Clipper and Galleon courses create and exciting combination of long fairways and perilous hazards, while the Brigantine course winds its way around lagoons and breathtaking terrain. The former home of the Hilton Head Senior International from 1982 to 1984, Shipyard Golf Club was rated as one of the finest layouts on the Champions Tour.

 

 

Palmetto Hall Plantation

Arthur Hills Course

Opened in 1991, this Arthur Hills course was instantly named a classic by Golf Digest Magazine, which rated it among America’s Top 10 New Courses. The course has since received a 4-star rating and is listed as one of 2008-09’s “Best Places to Play.”
Heavily wooded with towering pines and moss-draped oaks, the lush fairways roll past crystalline lakes. Protected greens, edged with bunkers provide golfers with challenges, while the signature par-4 18th hole offers a daunting finish to a spectacular game and was named one of 2008-09’s top 18 holes in the Low Country by WTOC News.

 

 

Robert Cupp Course

Unique. Innovative. Eminently playable. The Robert Cupp course is a stunningly original design that tests the better player but accommodates higher handicappers as well. Cupp, Golf World’s former Architect of the Year, opened his signature course at Palmetto Hall in 1993, and the course continues to draw high praise for its flexibility, sound shot values and impeccable year-round conditioning.

 

 

 

Dolphin Head Golf Club

The golf course at Dolphin Head, designed by Gary Player in 1974, was the first course constructed in Hilton Head Plantation. Because of this fact, Player was able to utilize some of the best golfing property the Plantation had to offer. It boasts two very distinctive nine holes; the front nine, meandering through tall trees with Player’s signature bunkers and marshland coming into play on most of the holes, is a great opening nine. It plays short, but puts a premium on hitting fairways and greens, and is quite typical of many of the top courses on Hilton Head. The back nine, however, offers a much different look with open spaces and tall, old growth trees, giving Dolphin Head two very distinctive looks. Not many other facilities in the area are able to offer such an experience, making Dolphin Head one of the most unique golf courses in the Lowcountry.
