More than a quarter century ago, famed golf course designer, Robert Trent Jones, Sr. was in the St. Louis area to design a course for Old Warson Country Club. He traveled to view a piece of land in the outlying town of Eureka where in his words, “nature seemed to have outdone itself.” This land, located in southwest St. Louis County, just 10 minutes from the intersections of 270 and 44 is known as The Legends.

As challenging as it is beautiful, the course measures 7,019 yards from the back tees, and boasts Westwood Bermuda grass on the fairways and Predator bentgrass on the greens and tees. In 1989, the United States Golf Association awarded The Legends Missouri’s highest slope rating. The signature hole, number 8, is a 209-yard, par three which exemplifies Jones’ philosophy that “every hole should be a challenging par and an easy bogey.”  In 1998, Course Architect, Gary Kern, designed the 9-hole Ridge course that measures 3,196 yards from the back tees. This course features Bermuda/Bluegrass fairways and Penncross bentgrass tees and greens.

Numerous notable tournaments have been held at The Legends. These include the Missouri Amateur Championship, the Pro-Athletes Golf League Tournament, 2015 USGA United States Senior Open Qualifier, 2017 USGA United States Open Qualifier, AJGA Midwest Classic and several other local and charity events.

The social centerpiece at The Legends is its 36,000 square foot clubhouse. The clubhouse features several dining facilities, one for fine dining and another for burgers after the back nine. A terrace outside The Lounge provides a popular place to relax with a cocktail or just enjoy a breathtaking view overlooking the golf course. Other features include locker room facilities, Junior Olympic sized swimming pool, bocce ball courts, tennis and pickleball courts and pro shop.
