Milwaukee golf guide

Wisconsin is a great state for golf, from the multiple major championships it has hosted (and will host) to the thousands of rounds played a year on its public courses.

And now that the summer’s finally at the tee, there’s plenty of time – and sunny weather – to take a hack at any one of Milwaukee County’s golf courses, as well as the dozens of other venues in the surrounding suburbs.

Here is a list of those courses that are open to the public and awaiting your tee time:

Arrowhead Springs Golf Course

This 9-hole, 2,562-yard par 34 was built in 1927 by Elmer Minzlaff.

Blackwolf Run Golf Course
1111 W Riverside Dr, Kohler, (920) 457-4446
Blackwolf Run is made up of the River, Meadow Valleys and The Baths golf courses. The site hosted the 1998 and 2012 U.S. Women’s Open’s.

Broadlands Golf Club

18-hole, par 72 plays to 6,884 yards.

Brookfield Hills Golf Course

Brown Deer Park Golf Course

Browns Lake Golf Course

Currie Park Golf Course

George Hansen design plays to a par 71 over 6,444 yards.

Deertrak Golf Club

Built in 1986, 6,400-yard layout plays to par 72.

Dineen Park Golf Course (disc golf)

Dretzka Park Golf Course

Eagle Springs Golf Resort

Edgewater Golf Club

Edgewood Golf Course

Erin Hills

The site of the 2017 U.S. Open and host of the 2011 U.S. Amateur and 2009 U.S. Women’s Public Links was designed by Mike Hurdzan, Dana Fry and Ron Whitten. Opened in 2006, the walking-only course stretches to 7,820 yards and plays to a par of 72. It also offers on-site housing.

Fairways of Woodside Golf Course

Designed by Jim Frutche, the par 71 plays at 6,535 yards.

Fire Ridge Golf Club

Designed by Kerry Mattingly and Gregg Kuehn, the par-72, 7,084-yard layout was a Best New Public Course in 1995 and a 4-star Golf Digest pick from 2000-2007 and served as the Monday qualifying course for Milwaukee’s PGA Tour stop from 2002 to 2009. It was once called the Country Club of Wisconsin.

Grant Park Golf Course

Milwaukee County’s first golf course opened in 1920 and was designed by George Hansen. The 18-hole layout plays to a par 67 at 5,213 yards.

Greenfield Golf Course

Built by George Hansen in 1932, course measures to 6,026 yards and a par 69.

Hansen Golf Course
9800 W. Underwood Creek Parkway, Wauwatosa (414) 453-4454
The 2,217-yard layout covers 18 holes and plays to a par 55.

Hartford Golf Club

Course plays to a par 72 and measures 6,529 yards.

Hawthorne Hills Golf Course

The original nine holes opened in 1964 with the second nine opening in 1968. Designed by Lee Egelhoff, the 6,657-yard layout plays to a par 72.  

Hon-E-Kor Country Club

Three, 9-hole layouts were built in 1960, 1975 and 1990.

Irish Course

The neighbor to the Straits Course at Whistling Straits, the Irish is inland from Lake Michigan and features more grassland and dunes.

Ironwood Golf Course

Features three, 9-hole layouts called the Callow, Meath and Birr. Any combination plays to a par 72 at over 6,400 yards.

Ives Grove Golf Links

Johnson Park Golf Course

Opened in 1931, plays to a par 72 at 6,703 yards. It’s home of the Mike Bencriscutto Junior Masters. 

Kettle Hills Golf Course

The facility boasts 45 holes with the Ponds/Woods (6,787 yards, par 72), the Valley (6,455 yards, par 72) and the Rolling Nine (3,182 yards, par 36).

Kettle Moraine Golf Club

The par 72 is stretched over 6,406 yards.

Lake Park Golf Course

An 18-hole, par 54 course.

Lincoln Park Golf Course

Originally a 6-hole course designed by Tom Bendelow in 1916, the course was redesigned as a 9-hole layout in 1922. Redesigned yet again in 1966, course plays to a par of 33 at 2,620 yards.

Mee-Kwon Park Golf Course

Noyes Park Golf Course

Paganica Golf Course

The Island Course was opened in 1986, and Ron Kuhlman designed the 6,744-yard, par-72 layout. Kuhlman also designed the 5,564-yard Falls Course, which opened in 1995 and plays to a par 70.

Songbird Hills Golf Club

South Hills Country Club

St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy Golf Course

This public and military golf course opened in 1921 and was designed by Carl Murfield. Its nine holes play to a par of 36 and measures at 3,152 yards.

The Bog

This award-winning, Arnold Palmer signature layout has hosted the Wisconsin State Open and plays as long as 7,221 yards. It is a par 72.

Valley Green Golf Course Lounge

Wanaki Golf Course

This award-winning municipal course has hosted numerous state championships. An Arthur Hills design that opened in 1997, the course is 18 holes and plays to a par of 72 and 7,007 yards.

Washington Park Golf Course

West Bend Lakes Golf Club

Whistling Straits

Whitnall Park Golf Course
