How durable are MOSO® Bamboo Outdoor Building Products?

MOSO® Bamboo outdoor building products which includes decking, siding, fencing, fascia, soffit, trim, am beams is extremely durable due to MOSO®’s proprietary Thermo-Density® manufacturing process. The following includes tests of Brinell Hardness and stability to match the extreme conditions of outdoor environments.

Who is the MOSO® group?

The MOSO® group was founded in 1997 in Holland with the sole purpose to establish bamboo as a real alternative to wood in both interior and exterior applications. MOSO® X-treme® was created by MOSO® for exterior solutions.

What is Bamboo X-treme®?

X-treme® is MOSO®’s exterior bamboo product which is sold as decking, siding, trim, deck tiles and lumber applications.

What are the basic details of MOSO® X-treme® Decking?

The product is found in 9 different profiles. From planks to siding, to trim, to tongue and grove boards to beams.

What are the basic details of MOSO® X-treme® Siding?

Siding has several configurations. There is amore traditional siding that is a 6 inch and 8 inch widths, with a shiplap profile. This is suitable for most projects. A second product line is the the N-Finity Siding. Is has a narrower width profile and lengths of 7 and 17 feet. Available profiles are shiplap and trapezium. This product is customer order with longer lead times.

What are the available MOSO® X-treme® profiles?

There are nine profiles. within each profile there are variations that is suitable for the specified application. Decking, Trim, Fascia, Beams, Siding, Tiles, Tongue & Grove, Fence board, N-Finity siding.

What are the performance characteristics of MOSO® Bamboo X-treme®?

There are many features to assess.

What are the testing references for MOSO® Bamboo X-treme®?

There are a number of test results with favorable ratings for durability, fire rating, solar reflectance, WUI certification, fungui resistance, and carbon footprint.

Is MOSO® Bamboo X-treme® eligible for LEED credits?

Specification of MOSO® Bamboo X-treme® can contribute to the following credits under Building Design & Construction. In Version 4 it contributes points to Resources & Materials.

Why are the MOSO® Bamboo X-treme® boards all 6’ long?

The answer is twofold. Hisotry of product development, and proficiency in transportation and installation helps reduce cost.

What is the appropriate joist span for MOSO® Bamboo X-treme®?

This is a frequent question that points to one of the best advantage of the end match system.

How do I fasten the MOSO® Bamboo X-treme® decking board to the joists?

MOSO provides our proprietary Asymmetric Kick Clip. The clip is used for both the siding and the decking product.

Can MOSO® Bamboo X-treme® decking be screwed through the face of the board?

Yes, Starborn® Industries provides Deck Fast Screws and their Pro-Plug system for this application.

Do I have to use the MOSO® Bamboo Clips?

No, but the X-treme® is a 20mm thick material which does not line up equally with imperial measurements

Do I have to put a finish on the MOSO® Bamboo X-treme®?

No, you can let the material weather naturally over time. If left untreated, MOSO® Bamboo X-treme® will weather a barn board grey color over time, depending on the exposure to the sun. MOSO® Bamboo X-treme® will turn into a silver-grey over time, but it takes about 36 months to go full silver patina. The siding may weather slower depending on the sun exposure.

How long will the UV blocker finish applied to MOSO® Bamboo X-treme® last?

The time between finishing is dictated by the direct exposure to the sun.

Can you use other finishes on MOSO® Bamboo X-treme®?

Other penetrating oils for hardwood may work, but we recommend contacting the manufacturer for their recommendations.

What is it like to work with MOSO® Bamboo X-treme®?

The MOSO® X-treme® mills and works similar to that of Ipe or other tropical hardwoods.

Will there be surface checking on my MOSO® Bamboo X-treme® deck?

Yes, as the top layer of the MOSO® Bamboo X-treme® acclimates to its surrounding temperature there will be some surface phishers.

Do I need to end wax the X-treme boards?

No due to the construction of the MOSO® Bamboo X-treme® material the ends are solid and the wax will not penetrate and will weep to the surface and affect the finish.
