Golfing is big in Ohio. In fact, according to the Ohio Golf Guide, there are over 800 golf courses in Ohio. This number includes both private and public courses. Six of Ohio’s courses also make it into Golf Digest’s Top 100 US Courses. These include:

These courses vary and offer features that appeal to those seeking world class golf experiences. The above courses are private and require membership for play, but not to worry. There are lots of public golf courses in Ohio scattered throughout the state. Many of those are also highly rated and ideal for golfers of all levels. The fees vary depending on time of day played and some even have special rates for seniors. Two of the top-rated public courses in Ohio are The Golf Club at Stonelick Hills in Batavia and Little Mountain in Painesville. And the public resort The Trout Club in Newark, offers something for the entire family.

Make a Trip Out of Golfing

It’s easy to combine a trip to any of Ohio’s golf courses, but some that ultimately come to mind as a destination getaway are those at the Ohio State Parks. Five of the Great Ohio Lodges located at Deer Creek, Hueston Woods, Maumee Bay, Punderson Manor and Salt Fork State Parks offer golfing. Each of these courses facilitates communing with nature along with enjoying the natural geographic features of the area. 

Deer Creek State Park Golf Course in Mt. Sterling

South of Columbus and designed by Jack Kidwell, this course features level terrain bordered by trees. Perfect for golfers who enjoy walking the course. Check out the Course Map and learn about their updated course practices. 

Hueston Woods State Park Golf Course in College Corner

Maumee Bay State Park Golf Course in Oregon

Just east of Toledo and a hop, skip and jump from Lake Erie, this spot features a links-style golf course designed by Arthur Hills. Lots of wildlife take advantage of this course. Learn about their updated course practices. 

Punderson State Park Golf Course in Newbury

East of Cleveland, this course features rolling terrain, bent grass fairways and three ponds. Check out the Course Map.

Salt Fork State Park Golf Course in Guernsey County

A 4-star rating recipient by Golfer’s Digest. The rugged landscape combined with few straight holes makes this a challenging course, which will likely require the use of every club in the bag. Another fun golf escape with a twist is at Glenlaurel in the Hocking Hills. The links are modeled after a traditional Scottish course. Players will use original Hickory Shaft Clubs and sand tees. No matter where you are in Ohio, you’re sure to find a golf course to suit your needs.
