On the Border restaurant returns to Dallas’ Knox district – as to-go only

It was tragic news when Tex-Mex chain On The Border decided to close its legendary location on Knox Street in Dallas, even if it was temporary.

But there’s a happy-ish follow-up of sorts, with the re-opening of the location as a to-go spot and catering kitchen, commencing October 23.

A release confirms that On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina’s Knox location at 3130 Knox St., #130, will continue providing its border-style flavors to Dallas.

The location will serve a full menu; it’ll just be On The Border To-Go. No seats, no tables, no sitting down.

The chain is known for its margaritas and fajitas, and for being the world’s largest Mexican casual dining brand, with more than 150 restaurants in 31 states and Asia.

The Knox restaurant was On the Border’s oldest location. It closed temporarily in August as the site was repurposed for more retail space.

They went out with a bang, serving grande house margaritas for $1.82, plus extended happy hour specials throughout their closing weekend.

Making lemonade out of lemons, the location is now being called a “trailblazer” in the On The Border system, as the brand’s first dedicated delivery, to-go, and catering kitchen.

On the Border’s president and CEO Matt Hood says in a statement that they’re “humbled and proud” to be back.

“After 37 years, this location has a special place in our heart,” Hood says. “We have a lot of loyal fans in the Knox/Henderson area, so we are looking forward to providing our craveable flavors once again.”
