Shadowmoss Plantation Golf Club

The Shadowmoss Plantation Golf Club is an 18-hole, 6,700-yard, par-72 course–one that, according to Golf Magazine, provides a “fun, well-conditioned test.”

The course is different because it was created on the spot of a real Charleston plantation. The Bermuda fairways make keeping your tee shot out of the rough extra rewarding. Because the plantation was already surrounded by natural ponds and streams, course creator Russell Breeden designed the course to incorporate these hazards.

The course’s signature hole, the par-3 17th, is known more for its beauty than for its difficulty. It provides panoramic views of the Charleston Harbor, Shem Creek and downtown Charleston’s skyline. The course’s longest hole is the par 5, 567-yard 18th. The shortest is the 150-yard par-3 17th.

Kiawah Island Resort, Cougar Point Course

Cougar Point at Kiawah Island Resort is an 18-hole, 6,875-yard course with a par of 72. This course was rated by the South Carolina Golf Course Owners Association as “Golf Course of The Year” in 2007.

Although the course was originally called Marsh Point, it was redesigned by golfing great Gary Player in 1996 and received a new name. Golfers who play this course must think before hitting a tee shot. For example, golfers on the fifth hole need to stay right on their tee shots to avoid hitting the trees while golfers on the seventh and eighth holes need to aim their tee shots to the left.
