As referenced above, coverage can be obtained to cover personal property which would provide the resident coverage for property damage resulting from natural disasters. Although a resident can file a claim against their neighbor’s liability coverage in the event the neighbor was negligent and caused the loss, there will probably be multiple parties claiming against that one neighbor’s policy and a full recovery of the loss is unlikely. However, with the purchase of the personal property coverage, a resident will have coverage up to the maximum amount of the policy. In the event of natural disasters, a resident’s personal property may also be covered under Assurant’s personal property coverage policy.
