Traffic control systems of the company were installed on roads 5 and 443 in the West Bank, as part of an Israeli road system, on which Palestinians are forbidden from travelling. Siemens traffic control systems were also installed on Road 1 at the entrance to the Mishor Adumim industrial zone. Siemens’ exclusive Israeli representative in the field of traffic control – RS Industries, maintains some of the traffic lights on road 443. RS Industries also won a tender of the Jerusalem Municipality for the provision of maintenance services to the traffic control systems in two tunnels located beyond the Green line: Levi Eshkol tunnel on Road 60 and Har HaTzofim tunnels on Har HaTzofim Road.
Together with its fully owned Israeli subsidiary – Siemens Israel, the company is participating in the NIS 3 billion tender for the electrification of the Israeli Railways network. The tender includes the electrification of 420 kilometers of existing and planned railway tracks, construction of electrical substations, as well as the control and command stations required for the electrification of the tracks.
One of the first two lines to be electrified under the tender is the Tel-Aviv Jerusalem high-speed train (A1), which is currently under construction. The A1 train route crosses the Green Line into the occupied West Bank in two areas, using occupied Palestinian land, some of it privately owned, for an Israeli transportation project aimed exclusively for Israelis. On October 2014, Israeli Railways announced that Siemens is one of the five competitors that passed the tender’s Pre-Qualification stage.
Between 2006 -2010, Siemens Israel also sold 118 passenger coaches to Israel Railways. In all likelihood, these passenger coaches, which constitute a substantial part of Israel Railways’ fleet, will be used at the A1 fast train line.
Through another Israeli representative, Orad Group, the company provided equipment and technology to the Israeli Prison Service. In 2004, the Orad Group provided a Siemens technology-based perimeter security system to the Gilboa prison – a detention center within Israel, designated for Palestinian political prisoners. In 2012, Orad also supplied maintenance services for a Siemens fire detection and extinguishing system in Israeli Prison Service facilities’.
