TGI Fridays in Hampden Township recently closed.
Awnings and signs on the building at 5500 Carlisle Pike have been stripped, while a sign posted on the front door shares the news the restaurant is permanently closed.
The sign directs diners to visit the closest Fridays location in Gettysburg.
TGI Fridays corporate office didn’t respond to a request for more information.
In 2021, the chain’s CEO Ray Blanchette said it would close between 10% and 12% of restaurants globally at the end of the pandemic, down from earlier reports 20% of the restaurants would close. Blanchette noted the chain adapted during the pandemic through delivery and curbside pickup models.
The Hampden Township restaurant had been in operation since about 2007 after receiving approval for an economic development liquor license. The type of license is sparingly granted and viewed as a last resort for applicants.
The Fridays is the second one to close in the immediate Harrisburg area. Fridays along Union Deposit Road in Susquehanna Township closed in 2019 and was later converted into P.J. Whelihan’s Pub & Restaurant.
No official word on what will replace Fridays. However, a recent tweet from Bennett Williams Commercial Realty announced Plaza Azteca, a Virginia-based Mexican chain with locations in York and Lancaster, is opening a unit at the address.
