the Tower Bar, West Hollywood, CA

the Tower Bar Restaurant Review:

In what used to be Bugsy Siegel’s apartment on the ground floor of the Sunset Tower Hotel, the dining room — with a view of the city — has been decorated in an elegant Art Deco style, with warm wood panels. Hotel owner Jeff Klein, who brought The City Club and its famous bistro, db bistro moderne, onto the New York cosmopolitan scene, has produced a similar success story on the Sunset Strip. The restaurant is packed every night, and you will always spot some celebrities — so there is a no cell phones and no photographs policy so they can dine in privacy. The bar occupies a large section of the space and makes the atmosphere vibrant. There’s also an outdoor terrace featuring poolside cabanas and fine views. Tuna tartare, crab cakes, a seafood tower and caviar service at market price are among starters. For large plates, there’s grilled swordfish, seared sea scallops, chicken potpie and grilled pork chop. You may finish with the apple tarte Tatin or molten chocolate cake. A lengthy wine list offers both international and domestic selections, and is heavily influenced by California and Bordeaux Cabernet Sauvignon. The professional staff includes food & beverage manager James Lukanik, who was the maître d’ for three seasons of the television show “Hell’s Kitchen.”
