Iowa golfers looking to play the state’s best courses may want to plan a trip east this summer.
In Golfweek’s annual rankings, updated this month, Spirit Hollow Golf Course in Burlington was named Iowa’s best public course and Pleasant Valley’s Davenport Country Club topped the state’s list of private courses.
An international judging panel evaluates and ranks courses continually based on 10 criteria on a points basis of 1 through 10, according to Golfweek. Judges also file a single, overall rating on each course. Those overall ratings are averaged to produce these rankings.
Three Iowa courses made national rankings this year: The Davenport Country Club and Cedar Rapids Country Club are in the top 200 classic courses in the U.S, ranking number 73 and 88, respectively. The Harvester Club in Rhodes falls within the top 200 modern courses in the nation, rating 77.
