THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED The Chameleon Restaurant Review:
Once known as the Chameleon Café, this neighborhood charmer now has a soignée look. The jolly pumpkin-hued walls are gone, replaced by a dusky color scheme and low-key artwork. Andrew Weinzerl, who took over chef duties from owner Jeff Smith, offers a seasonal menu of American fare, prepared with classical French technique. Brunch, small plates, and a Tuesday through Thursday prix-fixe menu are available, and longtime fans will still find the house’s signature seafood dishes, first-rate sauces, house-made charcuterie and garnishes as tasty as they are decorative. Although the food would be at home in the swankiest neighborhood in town, The Chameleon is a perfect fit for sweet, leafy Lauraville. A family business, the place is always warm and welcoming, the very best kind of “mom ‘n’ pop” joint.
