Top 10 Courses to Play in Louisville

June 23, 2014

While Churchill Downs plays host each year to the Kentucky Derby – the “greatest two minutes in sports” and the equivalent to the Super Bowl in the thoroughbred racing world – there’s so much more to Louisville than just horses.

Located along the Ohio River, Louisville is the largest city in the state of Kentucky, deep in the heart of Bluegrass country. Also widely known for its quality bourbon, Kentucky is home to eight distilleries, including Jim Beam, Wild Turkey and Maker’s Mark, along the “Kentucky Bourbon Trail” between Louisville and Lexington.

Golf is also alive and well in the area, which is home to the prestigious Valhalla Golf Club, host of two PGA Championships and a Ryder Cup,and GolfNow is home to over many quality Louisville courses that everyday golfers can enjoy, as well.

Of all the courses in the area, here are the 10 that topped the list:

Located at Horseshoe Southern Indiana, Chariot Run is a spectacular equestrian-themed 18-hole course featuring both beauty and challenge. Its more than 7,200 yards tout bent grass greens, sparkling lakes, lush fairways and beautiful trees.

“The minute I stepped onto the practice putting green I knew it was going to be a fun day,” said one reviewer. “It was a blast playing a championship level course and testing your game in conditions that were PGA Tour level quality and difficulty.”

Champions Pointe is a Fuzzy Zoeller/Clyde Johnston-designed, 18-hole golf course carved through the gorgeous landscape of southern Indiana. The Zoysia grass fairways, multiple lakes and strategically-placed bunkers throughout the course create a stern test along with the beauty of the slightly undulated greens.

“We always have a great time playing Champions Pointe,” one golfer wrote in his review of the course.  “Always pristine and very fun, easy course to play,”
