Daytona Beach Golf Club (South Course)

Perhaps not as challenging as the accompanying North Course, DBGC’s South Course holds an honorable distinction. It was designed by one of golf’s great course architects: Scotland’s Donald Ross. He also designed Pinehurst No. 2 (North Carolina), Oakland Hills (Michigan) and Florida’s own Seminole Golf Club — all among the nation’s most prestigious courses.

Established in 1921, South Course dates among the state’s first golf courses and offers a mostly open, relatively flat layout with palm and pine trees lining the stretches.

LPGA International (Jones Course)

Lying west of Daytona Beach, this course was designed by Rees Jones, son of golf course architect Robert Trent Jones, and ranks on Golf Digest’s top public courses in Florida.

The open and forgiving layout is loved by big hitters, with water challenges lurking on on many holes. A dry section in the middle offers excellent birdie opportunities, and golfers find threatening bunkers strategically placed around the greens. The not-overly large greens give the decent chipper a chance to get close to the pin — a must for scoring well at LPGA International Jones Course.

LPGA International (Hills Course)

One of Golf Digest’s top 75 public courses in Florida, this companion circuit to the Jones course has a different style in contrast. This course tests a golfer’s game in a classically Floridian wetlands and pine forested layout.

The Hills course, designed by Arthur Hills, offers a scenic journey. Play through relatively flat, good-width fairways flanked by small lakes, wetlands, mounds and bunkers — all of which underscore the need for accuracy. In addition, power and long hitters meet their match against dense foliage and water that line much of the course.

The Club at Pelican Bay (North Course)

This private championship golf course once hosted two Senior PGA Tour events. Designed by Bill Amick, North Course features immaculately maintained greens winding through waterways, loblolly pines, bayberry and white cedars.

North Course at Pelican Bay Club offers long demanding holes and elevated tee boxes. Assigning a signature hole would be an unfair assessment because every hole has its own challenge. Some views seem intimidating, such as the high tiers on the 460-yard 15th, or the gauntlet effect on the 230-yard eighth. Its sister South Course sits nearby, making Pelican Bay a great place for golfers of all ages and skill levels.

Victoria Hills Golf Club

Named one of the top courses in Florida by Golfweek magazine and arguably one of the finest Daytona Beach golf courses, this Ron Garl design carefully interacts with rolling hills and foliage, yielding a clutch of golfing challenges.

Surrounded by hundreds of oak hammocks and Augusta pines, Victoria Hills Golf Club showcases pristine lakes and greens, offering views to augment the golfing experience. Included are bunkers and natural sand areas, all the more attractive because there is little housing near the course.

Plantation Bay Golf and Country Club

This membership optional club — located 20 minutes north of Daytona Beach in Ormond Beach — offers ocean breezes, unspoiled natural beauty, and lush landscaping around its three course layouts.

Its Club de Bonmont course, ranked among the top 50 Florida golf courses and most distinctive courses in the Southeast U.S., is designed with natural and man-made hazards, undulating greens, bunkers, trees and water. The course requires players to use every club in the bag. Additionally, the neighboring Prestwick course rambles through 150 acres of forests.

Indigo Lakes Golf Club

One of Daytona Beach’s best championship layouts, Indigo Lakes appears in Golfweek’s top 10 golf courses in Florida.

Many varied holes lie along a predominantly flat terrain of stately pines with some slightly mounded areas and a half-dozen lakes. It’s nicely maintained and bunkered throughout, with elevated greens. In addition, players enjoy five sets of tees offered on each hole. Indigo Lakes stands as an attractive test for golfers of all abilities, especially for low handicappers from the back tees.

The Golf Club at Cypress Head

Moss-laden oaks, palmettos, pines and palms bring geographic grace to the layout often described as, “The public course you’ll want to play again and again.” It’s the course at Cypress Head.

Located in Port Orange, this Arthur Hills-designed course features back-to-back par 3s on the front nine and back-to-back par 5s on the back nine. Club selection is always key to a good score, thanks to Atlantic Ocean breezes. Several holes skirt alongside large woodland areas, while others border wetlands and small lakes.
